England under 21s continue their European Championship campaign on Wednesday night when they take on Ukraine at the Herning Stadium. Stuart Pearce's side picked up a creditable point against Spain in their opening match and they are 17/20 on to pick up three points this week according to William Hill, while Ukraine are 17/5 and the draw is available at 12/5.
The draw against Spain has been the subject of much debate after the Spanish dominated possession and only their failure to kill the game off saved England from embarrassment. It is to England's huge credit and testament to their defensive resilience that they weren't overwhelmed though.
The defensive side of their game will be key against an aggressive Ukrainian side that enjoy playing on the counter-attack and goalkeeper Frank Fielding might be needed to produce some more top drawer saves. The England backline has ensured only two of their last seven matches have involved over 2.5 goals and Hills price under 2.5 4/6 on this week.
Meanwhile, the England clean sheet can be backed at odds of 11/10, with the win to nil available at 9/5.
England's attacking players should get more of a chance to shine than they did against Spain and Daniel Sturridge is favourite to score first at 9/2 after notching four goals in his last five appearances for Bolton in the Premier League. It was Danny Wellbeck who grabbed the equaliser against Spain and William Hill offer a tempting market of 'first goalscorer coupled' with Wellbeck or Sturridge to score first available at 11/5.
The Ukrainians are not to be underestimated though as they went unbeaten during their qualifying campaign and Maxym Bilyi looks to have been underrated by the bookmakers. Bilyi has scored three goals in his last four under 21 appearances, including the consolation in his side's opening 2-1 defeat to Czech Republic, and he looks great value at 16/1 to score first or 6/1 to score anytime with WilliamHill.com.
However, the Ukraine are without influential captain Taras Stepanenko and have only won one of their last seven matches. They were well beaten by an impressive Czech Republic team and lost their only meeting with England, back in 2004, at this level.
England lost three of their five friendlies leading into the tournament but have only lost one of eleven competitive matches and they should extend that run this week. The correct score of 2-1 to England is available at odds of 15/2 and we fancy it could be a narrow win, with the England win by a margin of one goal our pick at odds of 12/5.
