Portugal v Ivory Coast Odds: Ronaldo and Drogba key to who wins

Group G gets underway on Tuesday with Portugal and the Ivory Coast going head to head at the Nelson Mandella Bay Satdium and in what has been widely billed as the 'Grou p of Death', both teams will be all too aware that three points will crucial if they are to stand any chance of prgressing to the last 16. Bookmakers' odds make Portugal the favourites of the two to win the match with Victor Chandler going 5/4 about Carlos Queiroz's side getting off to a winning start whilst Sven Goran Eriksson's men are 5/2 with William Hill and the draw a general 9/4 chance.

The outcome on this game could well depend on the performances of both sides marquee players, Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal and Didier Drogba for Ivory Coast. Between them, the pair scored 72 goals for Real Madrid and Chelsea respectively last season and fans will be hoping that they can repeat that kind of form in South Africa, however, Portugal has the edge given Drogba is an injury after suffering a dislocated elbow in a warm up game and may not start Tuesday's match. As such, Ronaldo is the favourite to score the opening goal of the game at 9/2 with Paddy Power whilst they make Drogba an 11/2 shot.

If Drogba doesn't make the Ivory Coast starting XI then Portugal has got to be favoured to win this game given their multiple goalscoring threats which includes Liedson and Almeida. Ivory Coast on the other hand may struggle without Drogba and would be more reliant on his Chelsea teammate, Saloman Kalou for their goals.

Portugal are in the better form, having won five and drawn one of their last six matches compared to Ivory Coast who has won just one in four. Both teams are capable of scoring goals but equally vulnerable at the back and as such siding with Portugal to win 2-1 at 8/1 may be the way to go if having a bet in this match.
