The live Monday night match is a North West derby as Manchester City head to the DW Stadium to take on Wigan. The two sides are at opposite ends of the Premier League table and it is no surprise that City are 2/5 odds on favourites to win the match, while Wigan are 7/1 to cause an upset according to Paddy Power.
City may be top of the table but they could do with getting some points on the board after a difficult few weeks. They have fallen to consecutive cup defeats and have failed to win any of their last four away league matches. However, it is tough to see this Wigan outfit adding to their woe and City are evens to be winning at half time and full time on Monday.
Wigan are enduring a tough run of their own as they remain stuck in the relegation zone after failing to win an of their last five matches. Things got worse last weekend when they fell to defeat to Swindon in the FA Cup and their home record has been abysmal this season - they have won just one league match at the DW Stadium and have failed to win any of the last eight there.
That is undoubtedly relegation form and Roberto Martinez is again without Shaun Maloney as his side struggle to find goals. They have the worst goalscoring record in the league, with just 18 from 20 matches, and it is well worth noting that the last four Wigan v Man City finishes have ended with City winning to nil.
City are 13/10 to win to nil on Monday after keeping four clean sheets in their last seven, while they are priced evens to keep a clean sheet by Paddy Power. Despite making a name for themselves with their goalscoring exploits earlier in the season, their last four away matches have involved under 2.5 goals and under 2.5 looks a decent punt at 6/5 at the DW.
The loss of Yaya and Kolo Toure to the African Cup of Nations is a huge blow and goes some way to explaining their recent poor form, while Vincent Kompany remains suspended and Mario Balotelli is an injury doubt.
David Silva is expected to return though and his creativity will be a huge plus for City, with the Spaniard a tempting 13/2 to score first. Sergio Aguero is 3/1 favourite to score first after notching two in his last three outings and he did score a hat trick in the 3-0 home win over Wigan earlier this term, with PaddyPower.com offering 13/5 for Aguero to score two or more goals.
There could be late goals in it as Wigan have conceded eleven times in the last fifteen minutes of matches - the most in the league - and paddypower go 10/11 for the last goal to be scored after the 76th minute.
Ultimately, it is difficult to look beyond a City win, although Wigan raised their game to hold Chelsea and Liverpool at home over Christmas, and the correct score of 2-0 can be backed at odds of 6/1.
