The Premier League manager merry-go-round is in full swing again as Blackburn's Sam Allardyce was sacked on Monday to follow hot on the heels of Chris Hughton's recent dismissal. Early movement in the betting on who is going to replace 'Big Sam' has Martin Jol as 5/2 favourite with Victor Chandler, with Alan Curbishley in the mix as usual, while Chris Hughton is also being touted for a swift return to management.
Allardyce had been at the club for two years and his sacking comes as a shock after there had been significant market moves on Monday to suggest Roy Hodgson might be the next manager to leave. Allardyce had guided his side to a respectable thirteenth in the Premier League and was recently promised money to spend in January by the new club's new owners. Those same owners have decided Allardyce is no longer the right man for the job after a run of results that saw them beat Villa 2-0, lose to Man United 7-1, beat Wolves 3-0 and then, the straw that may have broken the camel's back, lose 2-1 to Bolton at the weekend.
Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol has emerged as an early favourite to take over the reigns as he resigned from Ajax last week and is believed to welcome a return to England. He would represent a high profile appointment and has experience of the Premier League, and at shortened odds of 5/2 to be the next permanent Blackburn manager with Victor Chandler he could be worth a punt. Meanwhile Alan Curbishley is priced at 5/1 to finally get his managerial career back on track following his unsuccessful and problematic spell at West Ham two years ago.
Meanwhile Chris Hughton has emerged as a surprise candidate following his dismissal last week although he may find difficulty in winning over the board and fans due to him not being as 'high profile' as they might like. He did an excellent job at Newcastle though before being unceremoniously dumped and he looks decent value at odds of 8/1 with VCBet to be the next manager at Ewood Park. A high profile and popular candidate would be Martin O'Neill who is 10/1 with victorchandler.com and while Blackburn might not represent top four club he would prefer, he would certainly have the cash to splash that he craved so much at Aston Villa and he may begin to find that beggars can't be choosers following his controversial split with Villa.
5/2 Martin Jol
5/1 Alan Curbishley
8/1 Chris Hughton

10/1 Sean O'Driscoll
10/1 Dave Jones
