Werder Bremen v Spurs Odds: Draw best bet in this Champions League Group A Qualifier

Spurs travel to Germany this week for their first ever Champions League match against Werder Bremen on Tuesday night, in what could prove to be a very tricky away fixture. The German team have been made best price 6/5 favourites to win by Paddy Power who also offer the best on a Spurs win with odds of 12/5 and go 9/4 the draw.. The match can be seen LIVE on Sky Sports 4.

Some regard Group A as a ‘Group of Death’, with four highly capable teams that includes Champions, Inter Milan, who the Bookmakers believe are sure to win the Group, leaving Werder Bremen and Spurs to fight for the second qualifying place along with the Group outsiders, FC Twente. This all makes this opening match a very exciting prospect, between two teams who look reasonably well matched on paper.

2010 Champions League Group A Odds Comparison

Luca Modric, who scored before being injured against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League match last Saturday has been cleared to travel with the squad to Germany, but Jermaine Defoe and Michael Dawson will both be missing. It looks certain therefore that hat trick hero against Young Boys, Peter Crouch will lead the attack and has been made a 2/1 chance to score during the 90 minutes and has odds of 7-1 with Paddy power to grab the opening goal. As far as the goal getting for Werder Bremen is concerned its Claudio Pizarro who heads the betting to score the opening goal at 5/1, but we like the look of Mirko Arnautovic, who has started the season in great touch in front of goal. He is an 11/2 option to score to be first to break the deadlock.

After a shock start to the Bundesliga season where they were thrashed 1-4 by the very controversial table toppers, TSG Hoffenheim, Werder have settled down and seem to be over the loss of their international star player Ozil. They had an excellent 4-2 win at the end of August against FC Cologne and last weekend they held Bayern Munich to a 0-0 draw away from home. Conversely Spurs have had an indifferent start to the season with shock of the 0-1 home defeat by Wigan, still reverberating around White Hart Lane. They didn’t make their case much better by only drawing 1-1 away At West Brom the other day, results that have seen them earn only five points from their opening four Premier League games this season.

The game has probably come a little early in the season for both teams as certainly neither is peaking as yet, which is possibly why the game might be a cautious affair with neither team wanting to lose; a draw therefore it seems would be an unsurprising outcome and probably one that both clubs would be reasonably happy to accept if it was offered to them now. The temptation would be to back a 0-0 which has great value odds of 11/1 available from paddypower, but the favoured outcome is a 1-1 draw which has less attractive odds of 6/1.
