Stoke City will be looking to create history on Saturday afternoon by winning the FA Cup for the first time in their long history. They will be making their first ever appearance in the Wembley showpiece but to win they must defeat a very well motivated Manchester City, who will be all out to win the trophy for the fifth time. The Bookmakers see the outcome as almost a ‘no-brainer’ with VC Bet quoting Man City to win with a best price of 10/11 odds on, while at the same time they offer Stoke at 7/2 with the draw being a 5/2 option.
Under Tony Pulis, Stoke have been a real credit to their fans over the last few years and this final appearance is a just reward for their hard work and endeavour which has seen them become one of the most respected teams in the Premier League. Not a big spending glamorous club, Stoke owe their success to the ethics of hard work, team spirit, determination and supreme desire which is why the Bookmakers odds should, by and large, be ignored in an FA Cup final, because on the day Stoke are a match for anyone – ask Arsenal!
Manchester City meanwhile, will be aiming to add important silverware to their barren trophy cabinet now that they have qualified for next season’s Champions League, by finishing fourth in the Premiership. Their big spending policy appears now to be bearing fruit and a win at Wembley on Saturday will mark this season down a highly successful one.
Stoke have one or two injury concerns ahead of the game, Robert Huth who has been a major influence in the center of defence for them this season has a knee problem, incurred in the 3-1 win over Arsenal last weekend, while Matthew Etherington is likely to miss out with a torn hamstring. City on the other hand look almost certain to include talisman and captain, Carlos Tevez in the squad, the Argentine is making good progress after his injury and looked very impressive in training this week. He has been amongst the goals all season for his team, which is why he has already been made a 23/20 favourite to be amongst the scorers at Wembley and is a 19/4 chance with Victor Chandler to score the first goal.
The two teams have met each other only once this season which came at the end of November and which ended in a 1-1 draw. Somewhat ironically the reverse league fixture will be played next week at Eastlands and will mark the final game of the season for both teams. Stoke come into the final with only one defeat in their last nine while City have had three defeats, against Liverpool, Chelsea and Dynamo Kiev in their last five, but have enjoyed seven wins in their last ten.
A difficult game to predict the outcome, both teams are in form and both have to be respected. However, there is no doubt that if passion is included in the equation then it is impossible to ignore the claims of those supporting Stoke. It was clear by their win over Arsenal last week that the ‘Potters’ are well up for this game and in the mood to create history. In Jonathan Walters they have a player in the form of his life and with six FA Cup goals already this season it will be fitting if he can be amongst the scorers; he has odds of 13/5 to do so. We take Stoke to win by 2-1, possibly after extra time and possibly by having to come from behind. We would not rule out however that Carlos Tevez will make an impact on the match and he would be a good choice to back as the first goalscorer, with odds of 19/4 from Victor Chandler.
