Mark Hughes has taken over the reins at Queens Park Rangers and there are a host of betting specials on offer as the bookmakers assess the merits of his appointment at Loftus Road. The Welshman has signed a two and a half year contract with the club, although Paddy Power go 2/1 that he leaves Rangers before the end of the 2012/13 season.
Hughes hasn't garnered a reputation for sticking around at clubs and his stock certainly dropped when he quit Fulham last year because the club didn't match his ambitions. He would have almost certainly been expecting to move into a bigger job than the QPR hot seat but he feels he can help them to avoid relegation this season.
The club are currently 17th in the Premier League and his former club Fulham are just above him in 14th, with Paddy Power offering 7/2 for QPR to finish above Fulham this season, with Fulham 1/6 on to end the season looking down on their former boss.
Hughes has admitted his priority is to keep Rangers up this season but he has his eyes on bigger success in the coming years and he is 9/4 to stay at QPR until the end of the 2013/14 season. He has targeted a top six finish and the Europa League for next season and PaddyPower.com go 7/1 that he wins a trophy with QPR before the end of 2013/14.
QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has vowed to back his new manager and the new boss is likely to enjoy the benefits of a £20m transfer budget during January. Chelsea's Alex has been mooted as a possible signing, while Hughes is 5/1 to sign Roque Santa Cruz during January. Hughes has signed Santa Cruz for both Blackburn and Man City in the past and QPR desperately need a goalscorer after notching just nine at home this season.
Rangers have also been linked with a move for Carlos Tevez and if Hughes can make a success of his time at Loftus Road then it could be worth a look at the betting on what his next managerial move might be. He is 20/1 to be the next England manager, while he is 16/1 to be next Manchester United boss - the club he played for of course - and he is 20/1 to make a return to Manchester City and replace Roberto Mancini.
However, Hughes is also 33/1 in the next manager to be sacked betting with Paddy Power and a good start to his reign at Loftus Road would appear to be crucial.
His opening five matches at the club look winnable and early points on the board are very important as they play Newcastle away, Wigan at home, Villa away, Wolves at home and Blackburn away. Stan James bookmakers offer 4/5 for QPR to win two or more of those opening five matches, while they are 10/11 to win one or less.
2/1 To Leave QPR Before End of 2012/13 Season
9/4 To Remain at QPR Until End of 2013/14 Season
5/1 To Sign Roque Santa Cruz in January 2012
7/1 To Win A Trophy With QPR Before End of 2013/14 Season
16/1 To Be Next Manchester United Manager
20/1 To Be Next Manchester City Manager
20/1 To Be Next England Manager
33/1 To Be Next Premier League Manager To Be Sacked
QPR To Finish Higher Than Fulham This Season?
1/6 No
7/2 Yes
