Newcastle v Liverpool Odds: Dirk Kuyt to score first and give Pardew a tough start

The late kick off on Saturday will see Newcastle host Liverpool at St James' Park, and Alan Pardew will be presented to the Tyneside faithful for the first time. He faces a tough task to win over the fans and to win his first match as William Hill make Liverpool favourites at industry best priced odds of 11/10. Newcastle are 5/2 to win the match with the draw at 9/4.

Alan Pardew takes charge of his Newcastle side for the first time and rarely can a manager have had such a tough start to his reign as talk of player mutiny dominates the back pages. He takes over a side that are 12th in the Premier League and usually a new manager coming in gives a side a boost, but it would appear the manner of Hughton's dismissal has caused problems.

His new Newcastle team haven't won in five matches as they slip towards the relegation zone and lost 3-1 to West Brom last time out, but he will be hoping the temperamental Andy Carroll continues his own fine form. Carroll's odds of scoring first are 11/2 with William Hill and he already has 9 goals under his belt, but Kevin Nolan, who has scored an impressive 7 goals from midfield, is a doubt for the game and would be a major loss. Ben Arfa and Ryan Taylor are definitely out.

Newcastle have only won two matches at home this season, and have failed to win at St James' Park in the last three. Another statistic that doesn't bode well for them is that their opponent has scored first in almost 60% of their matches this season, while Liverpool have scored first in seven of their last eight matches. A look at the half time Liverpool win is 7/4 with williamhill.com, while the double result of a half time Liverpool win and a full time Liverpool win at odds of 12/5 looks good.

The double result looks even better as Liverpool have an impressive record against Newcastle, winning seven of the last eight and Dirk Kuyt in particular enjoys playing them. The Dutchman has scored three goals in his last five against Newcastle and looks great value, especially when you consider Liverpool's form of scoring first, at odds of 15/2 to score first Saturday with William Hill. Alternatively he is 9/4 to score anytime.

Roy Hodgson's men have a poor record away from home this season with just one win, but they appear to be turning a corner of late and gave Villa a 3-0 beating on Monday. Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Jay Spearing are still out, but Fernando Torres should return and William Hill make him odds on 7/2 favourite to score fist.

Liverpool have scored 14 in their last four against Newcastle while Newcastle themselves have scored 16 goals in their eight home games this term. The 2-1 correct scoreline to Liverpool at 15/2 could be worth a punt with William Hill, as Liverpool continue to improve whilst Newcastle's poor home form continues and gets Pardew's reign off to a difficult start.
