Republic of Ireland face a crunch clash against Armenia in the final Euro 2012 Group B qualifying match on Tuesday night. Both sides are bidding to finish in the top two of the group and it is Ireland who start as odds on favourites at 4/7 with Paddy Power at the Aviva Stadium, although Armenia are not to be underestimated and can be backed at 9/2.
Ireland currently sit second in the group, behind Russia who face the relatively easy task of needing to beat Andorra on Tuesday to top the group. Giovanni Trapattoni's men only need a point to finish ahead of third-placed Armenia and the draw can be backed at 11/4 this week, although it seems unlikely that the Irish will go out to play for the draw.
They arrive on the back of a 2-0 win in Andorra at the weekend, which was their eighth consecutive clean sheet in internationals. It is a remarkable achievement and testament to Shay Given and co, while the back line is strengthened further by the return of Richard Dunne from suspension.
Another Irish clean sheet this week looks very tempting at 11/10, while the Ireland win to nil could be worth a look at 13/8 for those looking for a bit more value. Goals have been at a premium in Ireland's matches of late, with their last seven involving under 2.5 goals and under 2.5 on Tuesday is 8/11 on.
The concern will be the lack of goals from Ireland's strikers though and their cause isn't helped by the news that Robbie Keane is a major doubt for the match. That leaves Kevin Doyle to lead the line and he is 5/1 to score first with PaddyPower.com as he did at the weekend, although he has managed only two goals in ten appearances for club and country this term.
A better punt could be a look at Spartak Moscow's Aiden McGeady at 8/1 after the winger scored the second goal against Andorra at the weekend in a man of the match display. He was slightly fortunate to claim the goal but he offered plenty of creative flair throughout the match.
Armenia meanwhile are bidding to qualify for a major tournament for the first time in their history and they certainly arrive in Dublin in decent form. They stunned Slovakia 4-0 away and followed that up with a 4-1 win over Macedonia at the weekend to make it three wins on the trot.
During that time Geogorov Ghazaryan has scored three in three and he looks a very tempting punt to be first goalscorer at 12/1, which looks decent each-way value at the very least.
Ultimately though we fancy Ireland to do just enough to win through and qualify for the play-offs for Euro 2012. They won 1-0 in Armenia last year and the Ireland win by a margin of one goal could be the way to go at odds of 23/10.
