Both sides will be bidding to avoid the wooden spoon in Group G on Tuesday night when Bulgaria host Wales at the Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia. Neither side can qualify for Euro 2012 but bottom of the group Bulgaria are 10/11 favourites to beat Wales according to Bet 365, but we fancy Wales to earn at least a draw (12/5), with the Wales win looking particularly good value at industry best priced odds of 3/1.
Wales certainly look to have momentum on their side following recent matches and Bulgaria have been woeful of late. They cannot call upon the services of Dimitar Berbatov because of his international retirement and it is scoring goals that has been their biggest downfall.
They have scored just three goals during this qualifying campaign and are yet to score a single goal at home. It is a damning statistic and it is perhaps a little surprising that Valeri Bojinov, who flopped badly in the Premier League with Man City, is the 11/2 favourite to score first on Tuesday.
Furthermore, Bulgaria have failed to win in their last five matches and have kept just one clean sheet in nine, with Lothar Matthaus paying the ultimate price as he was sacked last month. Mikhail Madanski is currently the caretaker manager but things have failed to improve as they have conceded three goals in each of their last three matches and they sit bottom of Group G with five points.
Wales are just a point better off but their recent performances have raised hopes among the Welsh public that they might be ready to challenge and rise up the world rankings in the next few years. They are much-improved under Gary Speed and this young squad has picked up some impressive results of late.
They are the only team to have beaten Montenegro in the group stages as they came through 2-1 last month and they picked up a hugely creditable 2-0 win over Switzerland at the weekend. Add the recent unfortunate 1-0 defeat to England at Wembley to those results and it shows a side that is very much on an upward curve.
Aaron Ramsey has been at the heart of most things good, scoring three goals in his last five international appearances, and he looks great value at industry best priced odds of 16/1 to score first with Bet365.com.
Meanwhile, David Vaughan is fit again, but Speed must do without Joe Ledley, Jack Collinson, Andy King and James Collins this week but his side still look capable of coming away with a result.
Considering Bulgaria's troubles scoring goals of late, the odds of 9/2 for only Wales to score in the match could be worth taking advantage of, while the correct score of 2-1 can be backed at 12/1 as Wales look to finish their campaign on a high.
