Burnley v Preston Odds: Clarets favourites to win Lancashire

The TV cameras head to Lancashire on Saturday for the derby clash between Burnley and Preston North End, live on the BBC at 17:15. There is certainly no love lost between the two sides and whilst the old cliche about form going out of the window in these kind of games may be true to an extent, it is difficult to look beyond the contrasting fortunes of both these teams and there only looks to be one likely winner on recent form. Bookmakers have made Burnley the odds on favourites to win this game with the best price about the Clarets bagging all three points is 8/11 with Paddy Power whilst Preston are a 4/1 chance with the draw chalked up 12/5.

Burnley have started the season well following relegation from the Premier League, picking up seven points from their first four games, including maximum points from both home games. Preston on the other hand have just one win from four, losing the other three and there run of bad form doens't just date back to the start of August. Since Darren Ferguson took charge of PNE in January, the team has won just once away from Deepdale, away at Peterborough back in January. Since then, the Lillywhites have failed to find a league win on the road in eleven attempts, losing nine of those in the process and a trip to Turf Moor on Saturday doesn't inspire confidence that Ferguson's woeful away record will come to halt and only acts to reaffirm that the 8/11 about the Burnley win looks a good bet.

The rivalry ahead of Saturday's game is heightened by three ex-Preston players lining up for Burnley. Graham Alexander, Tyrone Mears and Ross Wallace have all played for Preston in recent years. Alexander and Wallace will have one eye on getting on the score sheet. Alexander, a former favourite amongst Preston fans has continued his prolific penalty scoring record since his switch to Turf Moor and can be backed at 9/2 to score any time with Paddy Power and is 12/1 to score the first goal.

Wallace was another crowd favourite at Deepdale scoring 12 goals in 70 appearances from midfield and is already off the mark with his new employers with one league goal so far this season. Sure to take free kicks around the box for Burnley, Wallace is 10/1 to open the scoring or 7/2 to net at anytime. Burnley's main goal threat though comes in the form of Chris Iwelumo who has scored twice so far this campaign and the Scottish striker is the favourite in the first goalscorer market at 4/1. Preston's main danger in front of goal is Joshua King, an 18 year old loanee from Manchester United and is 9/1 to give the visitors the lead on Saturday.

Very rarely has this fixture resulted in a draw down the years with just one of the past 13 meetings between the sides at Turf Moor resulting in a share of the spoils. The other twelve have resulted in six wins for either side and the last three have all been high scoring affairs with four or more goals in the game. With both sides capable of scoring and Preston's leaky defence, over 2.5 goals makes plenty of appeal at 11/10. The value in the correct score market looks to lie in a 3-1 (13/1) or 3-2 (25/1) victory for the home side.
