Celtic continue their battle for the SPL title when they visit Tynecastle to take on third placed Hearts on Wednesday night. William Hill make Celtic 4/9 odds on favourites but manager Neil Lennon has stoked the fires ahead of the match and Hearts will be champing at the bit as 6/1 outsiders, with the draw available at odds of 7/2.
Lennon has accused Hearts of giving SPL leaders Rangers an easy time at the weekend when Rangers won 4-0. Hearts manager Jim Jefferies has reacted angrily to those claims and his side are likely to take little motivating for what could be a spicy match, with the odds of a red card being shown currently priced 10/3.
There was a red card when the two sides last met at Tynecastle in November, with Hearts pulling off a surprise 2-0 victory, although Celtic have since exacted revenge with a 4-0 win at Parkhead in January.
Hearts will need to avoid another heavy defeat this week as they attempt to hold onto third place in the league which would seal European football for next season. Their recent form has undermined those efforts as they have picked up just one win in ten and drawn four of their last five matches.
During that time they have found it difficult to keep things tight at the back, conceding 18 goals in their last nine and keeping just one clean sheet in ten. Their last three matches have involved over 2.5 goals and Hills make over 2.5 almost a given at odds of 13/20 on, with under 2.5 a tempting 23/20.
Hearts' Rudi Skacel has been key for them for much of the season as he has scored 13 goals in 26 games from midfield, including two in his last three. He leads the way to score first at 15/2, with Skacel to score anytime a 9/4 bet. However, his team's efforts to cause an upset are likely to be held back by injury doubts over Adrian Mrowiec, Andy Webster, Lee Wallace, Jason Thomson, David Templeton and Ruben Palazuelos, although captain Maris Zaliukas is fit.
Celtic look well placed to take advantage of Hearts this week as they look to keep pace with Rangers, who are one point ahead of them at the top of the SPL. A 3-2 defeat to Inverness last week was unexpected, although it is well worth noting that they have only failed to score three times away from home this term with both teams to score 4/5 on this week.
Central to their goalscoring form has been Kris Commons, and WilliamHill.com offer a match special of Commons to score anytime and Celtic to win the match at odds of 6/4. Commons is well worth a look in the goalscorer markets as he has hit ten in ten SPL starts and is on fire with seven from his last six matches, and at odds of 4/1 he could be worth a punt to score first.
Celtic have also been impressive defensively this season as they boast the best defensive record in the division and have kept five clean sheets in their last seven matches. A Celtic clean sheet on Wednesday can be backed at 7/5, and even with Joe Ledley and Beram Kayal out injured we fancy them to come through 2-0 at 13/2.
