Hearts v Celtic Betting: In Form Gary Hooper great bet to be first goalscorer

Celtic are favourites to win what looks to be a tricky match against Hearts on Wednesday night as they look to keep in touch with Scottish Premier League leaders Rangers. William Hill bookmakers have Celtic as 4/7 favourites in the betting, with Hearts a 5/1 bet and the draw at 11/4.

Celtic head to Tynecastle on the back of an emphatic and new Scottish Premier League record 9-0 win against Aberdeen which has left Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee clinging onto his job. The win saw hat-tricks for both Celtic strikers Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes as they extended their tally for the season to 9 goals each. Former Scunthorpe striker Hooper is hot favourite to open the scoring and continue his fine form, despite many doubting his credentials following his shock move from the Championship in the summer, and William Hill have him as an industry best price of 4/1 to be the first goalscorer against Hearts. While fellow striker Stokes is also 4/1 to open the scoring in the betting, although manager Neil Lennon has said he might rotate his forwards to cope with Hearts' physical style.

Lennon will definitely be without defender Thomas Rogne who was sent off on Saturday and either Glenn Loovens or Jos Hooiveld is likely to replace him. Celtic currently occupy second place in the Scottish Premier League during a season that has seen them score 31 goals and concede only 7, while they also boast an unbeaten record away from home. Their only defeat of the league season came at the hands of Rangers in the Old Firm derby, a defeat that was soured by controversy.

Controversy hasn't been far from Celtic's matches this season, as Hearts felt extremely hard done by during their 3-0 defeat to Celtic in September when there appeared to be strong cases for offside for the first two goals. However that defeat alone doesn't disguise what has been a poor season for Hearts under Jim Jefferies, particularly as they had hoped to kick on this season. They are currently fourth in the league, well off the pace at the top, and despite winning at Hibernian at the weekend they have several injury doubts for Wednesday.

Top scorer Kevin Kyle should make the squad despite injury, and he is 7/1 with WilliamHill.com in the betting to score first or 2/1 to score anytime. However there is not such good news regarding the influential Rudi Skacel, David Templeton and Suso Santana who are all struggling to be fit for the visit of Celtic. Hearts record at home does not make for happy reading, they have won only once at Tynecastle this term but should be looking to raise their game against one of the big guns in Celtic.

An away wins appears to be most likely, taking into account Celtic's unbeaten record on the road and Hearts' dismal home form. The 2-0 Celtic win looks well worth a bet at 15/2 with William Hill bookmakers, and Celtic will hope it proves that way as they try to keep within touching distance of Rangers.
