Wales v Bosnia-Herzegovina: Group B rivals tipped to share the spoils in Cardiff
Wales and Bosnia-Herzegovina lock horns on Friday night at the Cardiff City Stadium in a crunch Euro 2016 qualifier. The Group B rivals, along with favourites Belgium and also Israel, are expected to fight it out for the top two spots - which ensures progression through to France 2016 - meaning this early match-up could prove to be pivotal in gaining an early advantage in the standings.
Wales enjoyed a winning start to their campaign after recording a hard-fought 2-1 victory away to Andorra. The Dragons last took part in a major tournament a staggering 38 years ago (Euro 1976), but there is a real expectancy and belief around the current squad, which of course features the world's most expensive player in Gareth Bale, who will be key to his country's chances of making it two wins out of two on Friday at a tempting 13/5 with Bet365.
In contrast Bosnia suffered an embarrassing 2-1 defeat at home to Cyprus in their opening Group B match leaving boss Safet Susic under immense pressure. The Golden Lilies haven't dusted off the cobwebs from their disappointing World Cup debut, which saw them fail to progress out of the group stages. However, despite their wobbly form and shock defeat to Cyprus, they have still been installed as the 5/4 favourites with Bet Victor to bounce back and kick-start their campaign with a vital victory in the Welsh capital.
Wales boss Chris Coleman has a catalogue of injury concerns to worry about, with the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Joe Aaron ruled out. However, main man Bale is fully fit and raring to go. As always everything Wales do will go through the Real Madrid superstar, who bagged a brace against Andorra, and he looks a decent bet at 7/4 to net anytime on Friday, while he can be backed at an attractive 19/4 to open the scoring.
Goals are likely to be on the cards in Cardiff. Wales have kept just two clean sheets in 20 outings, while Bosnia haven't kept a competitive shutout for nearly a year, while they leaked in two goals at home to Cyprus last month. With this in mind both teams to score represents an attractive bet at 19/20 with Betfair, while a score draw looks great value at 10/3 with Paddy Power. Betfred also have odds of 9/2 for Bale to score in a Wales win.
Bosnia's key main will be Man City's who heads into the match priced at 11/8 to get his name on the scoresheet. Elsewhere Vedad Ibisevic, who has three goals in his last two games for his country, catches the eye at 21/10 to net anytime.
Friday's match promises to be a competitive game between two sides desperate not to lose, making a draw the way to go at 12/5 with Bet365. However, Wales have the momentum can look worth a crack at 6/1 (Sky Bet) to win with both teams finding the back of the net. But it is worth remembering that Bosnia enjoyed a cracking run away from home in qualifying for Brazil 2014 (W4 D1) and, while they may be out of sorts, they are still a massive threat on their day. The visitors could therefore be worth backing to win by exactly one goal at 11/4 with Paddy Power.
