The sacking of Neil Warnock as QPR manager has come as something of a surprise and Mark Hughes has been installed as a huge odds on favourite to replace him in the next QPR manager betting. Hughes is a 1/10 on favourite with William Hill and he is expected to begin talks over the job, although should those talks falter there are a host of other managers in the running.
Warnock had guided Rangers to the Premier League last season after he had taken over the job when they were 20th in the Championship in March 2010. However, a run of eight Premier League matches without a win has left them in seventeenth place in the division, while they were very nearly the victims of an FA Cup upset against MK Dons on Saturday.
Hughes would face a big task to keep Rangers in the league if he takes the job and he will need to take full advantage of the January transfer window if they are to avoid relegation. He is seen as a safe pair of hands after gaining Premier League experience with Fulham, Blackburn and Manchester City. However, Hughes left Fulham in June because he felt the club couldn't match his ambitions and it remains to be seen if the job at Loftus Road matches his expectations.
If Hughes doesn't take the job, Gianfranco Zola looks to be the next in line and he is available at odds of 11/2 with WilliamHill.com. Zola hasn't been seen since he left West Ham after two years in 2010, despite helping the club to avoid relegation, and another London club would appear to be an ideal destination for the Italian.
Rafa Benitez is another man with Premier League experience who is still looking for a return to management. The former Liverpool boss is a Champions League winner, although he currently lives in the north of England and it is questionable whether the role would match his ambitions, with Hills pricing him 10/1 to be the next QPR manager.
Elsewhere, there are a host of candidates at odds of 16/1 and former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink is 16/1 to take the job, as is Sven Goran Eriksson. They would represent experience picks, although there could be an up and coming man to take the job.
Paolo Di Canio is priced 16/1 by William Hill and he took centre stage in the national papers after his League Two side Swindon upset the odds to beat Wigan in the FA Cup at the weekend. Wigan's Roberto Martinez is also 16/1 to take over at QPR and he is under increasing pressure in the next manager to be sacked betting.
Finally, the Italian pair of Marcelo Lippi and Claudio Ranieri are each priced 20/1 and it is interesting to note they were linked with the role a couple of months ago when there was speculation surrounding the safety of Neil Warnock's job at QPR.
