Community Shield Betting Review: United show title credentials in thrilling win

Following their thrilling 3-2 Community Shield win, Manchester United remains the firm 7/4 favourites with Unibet to win this season’s Premier League title.

Manchester City looked to be on their way to dealing an early blow to United’s season after they took a 2-0 first half lead through goals from Joleon Lescott and Edin Dzeko.

Dzeko’s long range speculative effort managed to evade United’s new goalkeeper David De Gea when it looked certain that he had it under control. United regrouped in the second half with defender Chris Smalling knocking a close range effort past Joe Hart.

Minutes later Nani finished off a sublime United passing move to level the tie with an half hour left in the game.

The game looked to be heading for extra-time before an injury team winner from Nani, after he capitalized on a Vincent Kompany error, secured the first silverware of the season for United.

With less than a week left to the start of the new season, United and City look to have their preparations near complete for their respective season openers against West Brom and Swansea.

Both Manchester clubs may well be competing off the field this week as they go head-to-head in a bid to secure the services of Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder.

United are well backed to finish in the top four as well as Unibet make them 1/16 on and as they haven't finished outside of the top four in the history of the Premier League that looks pretty much a dead cert!

Interestingly, it is United players who head the betting to be the league's top goalscorer as Javier Hernandez is 7/1 favourite to take the Golden Boot after his excellent first season with United. Hernandez continued his goalscoring for with Mexico in the recent Gold Cup, while his strike partner Wayne Rooney is an 8/1 bet to be top scorer, with Robin Van Persie and Fernando Torres the best of the rest at 9/1.
