Defending Copa America champions Brazil will bid to get their latest campaign back on track when they take on Paraguay at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes on Saturday evening. The Brazilians are 8/13 odds on favourites for the match with Paddy Power, who will stream the match live on their website, while Paraguay are priced 5/1 and the draw is available at 13/5.
Most would associate South American football with goals and flair but these two sides are more renowned for their defensive steel lately. This year's competition has hardly got off to the most explosive of starts either and there is yet to be a goal scored in Group B.
Brazil opened their campaign with a hugely disappointing 0-0 draw with lowly Venezuela and it continued a run of poor recent form under manager Mana Menezes. They have picked up only three wins in their last seven matches and that will be of huge concern for a nation that are bidding to become only the second team in history to win the tournament for a third consecutive year.
Key to their hopes will no doubt be the precocious talent of Neymar, who is reportedly a target for several Premier League clubs. Neymar has created quite a reputation for himself and scored four goals in a 4-2 win over Paraguay in an under 20 match in January, and he is 9/2 favourite to score first according to Paddy Power.
Brazil have only scored three goals in their last seven matches, with Neymar scoring two of those, although they have kept clean sheets in four consecutive matches. A Brazil clean sheet is 10/11 on, while under 2.5 goals is 4/6 on after their last seven matches featured less than 2.5.
It could be worth a look at under 1.5 goals for a bit more value at odds of 2/1, particularly as Paraguay have been equally steely at the back. They drew 0-0 with Ecuador in their opening Group B match and were only kept at bay by a blinding display from Ecuador's goalkeeper Marcelo Elizaga.
It was Paraguay's fifth consecutive clean sheet and they can be backed to make that six on Saturday at a tempting 7/2. However, it was also the third time in four matches that they have failed to score and Roque Santa Cruz will be hoping to change that. Manchester City's Santa Cruz failed to score during a loan spell with Blackburn last season but he is a 9/1 punt with PaddyPower.com to score first this weekend.
Paraguay have only suffered one defeat in their last seven matches and the stats appear to point to a 0-0 draw at 15/2. However, we fancy a goal either way could seal it and the 1-0 to Brazil could be the way to go at 9/2 as the reigning champions bid to seal their place in the knockout stages.
