Goals Will Be Hard To Come By When Northern Ireland Visit Norway

Northern Ireland head to Oslo for their final 2018 World Cup qualifier on Sunday night as they come up against Norway and it promises to be an intriguing Group C encounter in the Norwegian capital...

  • Norway and Northern Ireland are level at 2-2 in head-to-head meetings after Michael O'Neill's men won 2-0 at home in March
  • Northern Ireland have kept seven clean sheets in nine World Cup qualifiers
  • Northern Ireland failed to score in two of their four away qualifiers

How It Stands

Northern Ireland are guaranteed to finish second in Group C despite their 3-1 loss at home to group winners Germany on Thursday and, at the time of writing, Michael O'Neill's men might still need a point from Sunday's game to be sure of finishing among the best eight of the nine runners-up to go through to next month's play-offs.

The draw looks like a decent price at 23/10 (Bet 365) in a game that might struggle to get the pulses racing this weekend. Indeed, Northern Ireland have failed to score in two of their four away qualifiers and they needed an injury-time goal to win 1-0 at Azerbaijan and they 'only' won 3-0 at San Marino.

Rock Solid At The Back

Despite their struggles in front of goal, Northern Ireland have kept seven clean sheets in their nine qualifiers and backing against both teams scoring is 4/5 (Ladbrokes) to pay out for an eighth time. It is a bet that has paid out in six of Norway's nine qualifiers and the Norwegians have nothing left to play for as they sit in fourth place in Group C after only recording wins against San Marino (twice) and Azerbaijan during this campaign.

The big threat from Norway will be a player who is familiar to regular Premier League viewers as Bournemouth's Josh King has been in fine form. King has scored five goals in eight qualifiers for his country and he is 2/1 to score at anytime (Betfred), albeit goals could be hard to come by and under 2.5 goals is another market for odds-on backers (8/13 with Betfred).
