Victor Chandler were the first bookmakers to put up a betting market on who will be the next permanent Wales manager, after news came out on Monday that current Wales boss John Toshack will step down as Manager once the Welsh FA have found a replacement. Wales lost to Montenegro 1-0 last Friday in Euro 2012 qualifying and Toshack claims he has taken the team as far as he can, after a string of players have 'retired from International football' under his tenure as boss. There's a plethora of Welsh football legends linked in the betting but short odds favourite is current under-21 boss Brian Flynn at 2/1 with Victor Chandler.

Flynn is a much reveered football man from his days in the lower leagues with Wrexham and although he has been doing a sterling job with the under-21 team, you wonder whether he has the experience or the profile to become the National team manager. Next in the betting is Ryan Giggs, who Chandlers make a 5/2 shot. The odds seem very short given the player still has much to offer for Manchester United and has shown no signs of retirement. There is a possibility that the Welsh FA could give someone the job in a caretaker role and wait for Giggs to finish his playing career and then take the job on a permanent basis, but this seems pretty unlikely and the 5/2 with VCbet offers no value at all.
One man who may fit the bill is former Welsh captain Chris Coleman, who has been without a job for some time and you would think is very interested in the role. Coleman did a sterling job at Fulham and might be seen as the ideal replacement for Toshack and can be backed at 5/1 with Victor Chandler. The bookmaker have seen some money for Welsh goalscoring legend Ian Rush, who is next in the betting at 8/1. Rush lacks the managerial experience but may be seen as an inspirational choice to manage this young Welsh side.
Former players Gary Speed and Dean Saunders are also available to bet on at 8/1 and 10/1 respectively, although it is unlikely that Speed be offered the job having only just taken up the reigns at Sheffield United. Saunders is currently number two to Toshack but it is unclear as to whether the Welsh FA would see his appointment as an improvement. Other players linked further down in the betting are Bristol Rovers manager Paul Trollope (10/1), Stoke manager Tony Pulis (14/1) and Hereford United manager Simon Davey, at 14/1.
Wales are the rank outsiders to win Group G in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign at 33/1 with Ladbrokes and the Welsh FA will be keen to get a new manager in before the team's matches with England next year.
