England travel to Basel in Switzerland this week to take on a Swiss side who could easily represent their most dangerous opposition in their Euro 2012 qualification group. Paddy Power Bookmakers however make England decisive odds on favourites to claim the three points with odds of 5/6 while Switzerland are a 10/3 chance with the draw at 5/2.

For England it is their second game in the group having already demolished a Bulgarian side 4-0 at Wembley last week, but it is the opening Euro 2012 game for the Swiss, who have not played a competitive fixture since the 2010 World Cup finals in June. It will be remembered that in South Africa it was Switzerland who caused one of the biggest shocks of the tournament by beating eventual world champions, Spain by 1-0 in their opening group fixture. It was a win that demonstrated that they are a team who can raise their standards against quality opposition and as such they cannot be discounted in this game. Despite their victory over Spain, the Swiss failed to make the knock out phase of the World Cup and have played just two friendly matches since then, winning 1-0 against Austria and drawing 0-0 with Australia last month.
Euro 2012 Group G Betting Comparison
If Switzerland have a weakness it is in the goal scoring department, they have scored just five goals in their last ten games, however in fairness to them they have only conceded 6, suggesting that this game with England might well be a low scoring affair, with perhaps just one goal being enough to win it.

England looked very impressive when they beat Bulgaria last week, hat trick hero, Jermaine Defoe looked particularly sharp and is a striker always worth betting on when he is in such from. In fact Defoe is a 33/1 shot to score a second successive hat trick but is a more realistic 9/2 to score the last goal of the game with Paddypower. Wayne Rooney who played a superb supporting role last week is another who should be closely looked at to score. He appears to have been scoring well off the pitch lately and knows it is about time he got back in the groove on it. Rooney is favourite to score at anytime during the match with odds of 5/4, which we admit are not great value odds but worth taking we think, in this instance. Rooney has travelled with the team which means that he is likely to play.
England will once again be without mainstays, John Terry and Frank Lampard, whose absence against Bulgaria, if the truth be told did not hinder England at all last week. If anything it allowed Steven Gerrard to take a more central and cutting edge role in the midfield which he took advantage with great aplomb.
We think England will come away with the three points from this match but would respect the fact that it is likely to be a low scoring game and would bet on them to win by either 1-0 or 2-0, which have odds of 5/1 and 8/1 respectively with paddy power.
