England Third Favourites in Euro 2012 Betting Before Sunday's Draw

The John Terry affair has been a very un-welcome distraction for England football manager Fabio Capello this week, but on Sunday the Italian can get back to business as the draw for the qualifying stages of Euro 2012 are made in Warsaw. Capello's side qualified for the World Cup this summer in South Africa in near perfect style, winning all but one of their  qualification matches and England will be amongst the favourites for the competition being held in Poland and the Ukraine in 2012.

Sunday's draw will determine the nine qualifying groups for Euro 2012, where the winners of each group plus one runner-up will be guaranteed a starting places at the finals in two years time. The other eight placed best runner-ups will have to face a play-off, with Ireland hoping that a repeat of their acrimonious defeat to France is not repeated.

Euro 2012 Draw

England will be one of the top seeds for the draw, which is using the new World rankings coefficient as a seedings guideline for the first time. This guarantees that England, currently an 8/1 chance to win Euro 2012 with bet365 will not be drawn against the likes of Italy, Spain or Germany in the group stages, or the Croatians, who they've been pitted up against on the last two possible opportunities. World Cup finalists Serbia probably represent the toughest opponents in pot two of the draw and Fabio Capello will be secretly hoping that they are avoided. There is however a possibility that England could be drawn against Scotland, a draw that would probably please Capello more than new Scotland chief Craig Levein.

Current World Cup favourites Spain also head the betting for Euro 2012, as short as 5/1 with bet365.com. The online firm make Italy second favourites at 6/1 whilst they cannot seperate England, Germany and Holland who are all available to back at 8/1. One thing is for sure, is that if any European team wins the World Cup this summer in South Africa there odds will be considerably shorter for the Euros come the start of the qualifying stages in September.

Euro 2012 Odds

5/1 Spain
6/1 Italy
8/1 England
8/1 Germany
8/1 Holland
10/1 France
12/1 Portugal
16/1 Croatia
20/1 Russia
20/1 Czech Republic
33/1 Ukraine
