Peterborough v Sunderland Odds: O'Neill's side bid to avoid a cup upset

Sunderland will look to continue their resurgence under Martin O'Neill when they head to Peterborough for the live Sunday afternoon FA Cup match. O'Neill's men are 10/11 favourites to win the third round tie at London Road and that looks decent value, with Peterborough available at 3/1 and the draw 5/2 with Bet 365 bookmakers.

O'Neill has really turned things around at the Stadium of Light as his famed man management skills come to the fore once again. The Northern Irishman is yet to win the FA Cup as manager and he will see this season as an ideal opportunity to put that right.

Sunderland have suffered defeat only once in six matches since O'Neill replaced Steve Bruce, with that sole loss coming at high flying Tottenham. They have won four of the other five in the Premier League and it is defensively that they have improved of late, with three of their last five involving under 2.5 goals.

Under 2.5 goals can be backed at tempting odds of 23/20 with B365 on Sunday and that could be worth a look as Peterborough have also got their defensive act together of late. Their last five have involved under 2.5, as have seven of their last nine.

However, Peterborough have kept just two clean sheets in their last 27 matches and Sunderland's Stephane Sessegnon will be looking to extend his run of two goals in his last four appearances, with Bet365 going 6/1 for Sessegnon to be first goalscorer on Sunday.

Sunderland managed to keep Manchester City out in their recent 1-0 win over the Premier League leaders and we like the look of the 'result x goals' market of Sunderland to win and under 2.5 goals at odds of 4/1.

They come up against a Peterborough side who are currently fifteenth in the Championship and who have scored in each of their last seventeen matches. With that in mind, it could be worth a look at both teams to score, which is 4/7 odds on, while Sunderland have only kept one clean sheet in their last eight.

Emile Sinclair could be the man to breach the Black Cats defence after scoring three in his last seven and he is available at 17/2 to score first, with Bet 365 offering a third the odds on each-way first scorer bets.

Late goals have been a feature of both team's recent matches, with Sunderland's last four matches witnessing three goals scored in the last ten minutes, while Peterborough's last two have seen two goals go in after the 87th minute, with Bet365.com going 5/6 for a goal to be scored after 75 minutes and 59 seconds on Sunday.

Peterborough may have found goals easy to come by of late but they have only won two of their last nine and have only one of 26 FA Cup matches against top flight opposition. We fancy Sunderland to continue their fine form under O'Neill and the correct score of 2-0 can be backed at a juicy 9/1.
