Man City v Man Utd Betting: Blues favourites for third round tie

The latest instalment Manchester City v Manchester United battle continues this weekend when the pair meet in the live Sunday lunchtime FA Cup match. City start as 11/10 favourites in the betting for the third round tie at the Etihad Stadium, while United are priced 5/2, with the draw looking tempting at 23/10 with Paddy Power.

The draw wouldn't be an ideal result as it would mean an FA Cup replay is added to an already packed schedule for both sides. There isn't just local bragging rights at stake for this match and it could be another spicy affair after the last three meetings involved two red cards, with Paddy Power going 12/5 on a red card to be shown on Sunday. Paddy Power are also offering to refund all losing first scorer, last scorer, correct score and scorecast single bets if there is a sending off in the match.

City, who have stolen a march at the top of the Premier League, certainly hold the edge going into this game as they are now unbeaten in eighteen domestic matches at home and beat United in the semi-finals of this competition last season. Plus they will have sweet memories of their 6-1 win at Old Trafford back in October, although this is likely to be a much closer affair.

City have kept five clean sheets in their last five FA Cup matches and they can be backed at 9/5 to keep a clean sheet and 11/4 to win to nil. However, they are without Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure, Gareth Barry and Mario Balotelli this weekend, with the loss of Barry and Toure likely to disrupt their midfield.

Roberto Mancini's men do however boast Sergio Aguero up front and he is 5/1 in the first goalscorer betting after scoring three in his last four, while he has scored the opening goal in each of the last four matches in which he has scored.

He will no doubt fancy his chances against a United defence that have conceded six goals in consecutive defeats to Blackburn and Newcastle. Blackburn were 28/1 to win at Old Trafford but that's just what they did and Sir Alex Ferguson defensive crisis remains with Chris Smalling, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans and Fabio all out.

United, who have won their last five FA Cup away matches, had been excellent away from home before the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle though and expect them to tighten up defensively. Six of their last eight away matches in the Premier League have involved under 2.5 goals, as have six of the last seven Man City v Man Utd matches at City. Under 2.5 could be worth a look at 4/5 with neither side willing to give an inch.

Dimitar Berbatov is in fine form for United after scoring six in his last four and he will be keen to prove he can turn it on in the big games, with PaddyPower.com going 7/1 that he scores first.

It is a tough match to call though and we fancy the look of a draw, particularly with both sides missing key men, and the correct score of 1-1 can be backed at a tempting 5/1.
