Chelsea v Valencia Betting: Blues favourites to secure a win and qualify

Chelsea welcome Valencia to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night for their crucial Champions League Group E match. The last match of the group stages sees both sides still able to qualify and Chelsea start as the 3/4 favourites in the betting with William Hill, while Valencia are 19/5 and the draw is priced 5/2.

The two teams are currently second in Group E, tied on eight points, and they are one point behind Bayer Leverkusen, who travel to Genk on Tuesday. A goalless draw or a win would be enough to see Chelsea reach the knockout stages for a ninth successive season, while Valencia need a score draw or a win to progress.

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last five against the Spanish side and despite some indifferent results of late, Andre Villas-Boas's side restored some much needed confidence with a 3-0 win over Newcastle at the weekend. They rode their luck at times but three points in the Premier League was just what they needed heading into this crucial match.

Daniel Sturridge was at the centre of all things good against Newcastle as he scored his third goal in his last four and his eighth of the season. Sturridge is available at 5/1 in the first goalscorer betting with Hills and that could be well worth a look.

Meanwhile, there is a side story to the match as Chelsea's Juan Mata comes up against the Valencia team he left in the summer and WilliamHill.com offer 7/2 for Mata to score anytime and Chelsea to win the match.

Chelsea, who are likely to leave the want away pair of Nicolas Anelka and Alex out again, left it late to finish Newcastle off on Saturday as they scored two late goals. We fancy the look of a match goal between the 81st minute and full time on Tuesday at 6/4, particularly as each of Valencia's last four matches have involved a goal after the 80th minute.

The two sides drew 1-1 in Valencia earlier this season and the Spanish side would be delighted with that scoreline again. They look good value to get on the scoresheet against a shaky Chelsea defence as they have scored in each of their last thirteen games, with both teams to score priced 19/20.

Roberto Soldado has 14 goals for the season and he is 13/2 to score first and 15/8 to score anytime after he scored the winner against Espanyol at the weekend. It leaves Valencia third in La Liga as they continue to impress, although they have struggled away from home in Europe.

Valencia haven't won any of their last five away in the Champions League, drawing with Genk and Leverkusen this term, and they are again without the injured Ever Banega and Sergio Canales. We fancy Chelsea should have the edge and they are 15/2 to win 2-1 in the correct score betting, which would be enough to secure their safe passage into the knockout stages.
