Friday 6th October 2017, 7.45pm - Ireland v Moldova - The Aviva Stadium
There is a massive match to look forward to on Friday night as the Republic Of Ireland host Moldova in what looks like being a must win match for the boys in green. Group D is set to go down to the wire this weekend with Ireland and Wales fighting it out for a World Cup play-off place and with the Irish currently sitting in 3rd place, a win against Moldova is essential.
- Ireland won the reverse fixture 3-1 in Moldova last year
- Moldova have scored just four goals in their eight group matches
Struggling Ireland The Clear Favourites For The Win
The Republic Of Ireland looked in a great position to fight for top spot in Group D at one stage but they have slipped out of contention recently which means this is as good as a must win game.
A win for them on Friday against the group whipping boys will see them head to Cardiff on Monday safe in the knowledge that a win in that game will see them grab a play-off spot. Ireland have been struggling of late though which is a worry with no wins in their last four qualifiers, including a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Serbia last time out.
They really should be able to bounce back here though against the stragglers from eastern Europe. Moldova (33/1) are without a win in the section and an Ireland three points is the red hot favourite at 1/8 with Coral.

Ireland Can Put Toothless Moldova To The Sword
Moldova have crashed and burned in this group with no wins to their name after eight matches, and they have scored just four goals..
Ireland have injury problems themselves with the likes of Brady, McClean, Arter, Walters and Westwood set to miss this match for one reason or another, but they are still going to be too strong at home.
Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan is in the squad for the first time and there is every chance he could win his fist cap given all of the injuries, and even money with Ladbrokes about him scoring anytime could well prove to be a great side punt.
Ireland have really struggled of late in front of goal with very little creativity going forward, and that has seen their Russian dream come under serious threat. Even taking that and their injuries into account, this is a game that they are going to find hard not to win against a Moldova team who have nothing left to play for but pride.
Hogan is the interesting one from a goal-scoring point of view but given the struggles of the Moldovan team in attack, an Ireland win to nil looks like the main bet at 1/2 with Bet Victor.
