World Cup Semi Finals Odds: Spain Narrowest of Favourites

These are probably not the Semi Finals that most had anticipated before the 2010 World Cup began, however, each of the teams left in the tournament have all got there on merit and each have chances of winning. Spain, who have been either top or second in the World Cup betting, since the first market was formed are the narrow favourites, with odds of 15/8 with Bet365, while Germany, who play Spain in the second Semi-Final on Wednesday, are just behind at 2/1. Holland are 21/10 but Uruguay, it seems, are the team to leave alone at 10/1.

Ironically it is Spain who has arrived at this stage of the competition without any real World Cup history behind them. Their best previous performance was a fourth place achieved in the Brazil World Cup of 1950 which was won that year in fact by Uruguay. The South Americans had also won the first ever World Cup in 1930 and have also been fourth twice in 1954 and 1970. Germany have of course won the World Cup three times, while Holland were runners up in both 1974 and 1978.

World Cup Semi Finals Odds Comparison

It seems odd that the two favourites will be facing each other; Spain and Germany meet in Durban on Wednesday, but first up will be the Uruguay v Holland match which takes place at the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town on Tuesday evening.Bet365 Bookmakers report that the most common bet on who will make the final is Holland and Spain, which can be backed at 6/4, while a Germany v Holland final is available at 13/8. The least popular bet is Germany v Uruguay at 6/1.

The one aspect that sticks out above all with this World Cup is that anything can happen. Fans and punters have been surprised and shocked regularly throughout the Tournament so it should come as no or surprise or shock if Uruguay should win the World cup outright on Sunday night. Their opponents, Holland, apart from the second half display against Brazil, have barely got out of second gear, while Spain in the other semi final have struggled throughout and have had to rely on the considerable talents of David Villa to get them to this stage. He has scored five of their six goals and remains the 1/2 odds on favourite to win the Golden Boot for top scorer in the tournament, he is also a 9/4 chance with bet365 to end up with the Golden Ball award too.
