John Terry's tenureship of the England Captain's armband has come to an end after England Manager Fabio Capello decided to strip the Chelsea player of the armband at Wembley on Friday afternoon. When the news broke of Terry's alleged affair with the French mother of Wayne Bridge's child a week ago, Terry was an odds on chance himself to hold on to his Captain duties for the National team but as further allegations and leaked skeletons have hogged the tabloid headlines this week it appears that the Chelsea stars time is up as England skipper.
It is unsure as to whether Terry will remain in the thoughts of Capello as a first team player but seemingly Capello, a staunch catholic wanted to send out a message to the English public that he won't tolerate such off-field activities.
If Terry remains in the England squad, this incident shouldn't do too much to damage England's chances at the World Cup in South Africa, but Capello's team have drifted out to 6/1 from 11/2 third favourites behind Spain and Brazil in the betting with PaddyPower.com since the news broke.
Capello issued a statement on Friday afternoon intimating that he had a vice captain and third choice captain when he selected his first squad so with that in mind, Ferdinand has been handed the role.
