Leicester to edge past Fleetwood in FA Cup third round tie

Jamie Vardy exclaimed his joy at Leicester City's FA Cup third round draw, as the Foxes face a trip to League One Fleetwood Town, a side he played for earlier in his career, but the England international could miss the match having picked up a groin injury, and it could be one of a number of changes Claude Puel makes for the tie, which kicks off Saturday's action.

  • Fleetwood beat Hereford 2-0 in FA Cup second round
  • Leicester City beat Huddersfield 3-0 in last Premier League match
  • Jamie Vardy is in a race to be fit for tie against former club

How Will It Go?

Puel rang the changes in Leicester's quarter-final Carabao Cup clash with Manchester City before Christmas, and he will no doubt utilise his squad for this match on Saturday, but despite their second string likely to play it's the Premier League outfit that have been installed as the 8/13 favourites with Betfred.

Fleetwood are currently 12th in League One, and have lost three and won three of their last six matches, so they are showing significant inconsistencies, so it's hard to get excited about the 5/1 with Betfair Sportsbook for a home win, while the draw is a best-priced 31/10 with Unibet bookmakers.

So, while Leicester are sure to mix their team up a bit after a busy Christmas schedule, they should still have enough quality within their ranks to beat the third tier north west outfit, but it could be a match that sees Fleetwood remain in the game for a long time, before Leicester's class prevails.
Match Odds:

Foxes To Edge Match

Riyad Mahrez could be another key player that is given a rest, while Wes Morgan is set to miss the match as well, so Leicester may find it tough to break their opposition down, and with that in mind, it could be worth snapping up the 23/10 on offer with Paddy Power for Leicester to win by one goal, while a 2-1 Leicester win is eye-catching at 7/1 with Ladbrokes.

Slimani To Open Scoring

If Jamie Vardy fails to make this clash then it could be Islam Slimani that leads the line for Leicester alongside with Kelechi Iheanacho, and it's the former that has failed to set the world alight following his big-money signing in 2016 that can open the scoring, and the Algerian is a cracking bet at 4/1 with Betfair Sportsbook to ignite a narrow win for the former Premier League champions.
