Manchester City remain the bookies' favourites to win the FA Cup following the draw for the third round matches, which are due to take place during the weekend of the 5th/6th January 2013. City, the 2011 champions, are currently 5/1 to lift the famous trophy at Wembley in May and they are set to start their campaign with a home tie against Gianfranco Zola's Championship outfit Watford.
Zola's side have been good value for entertainment so far this season as their games have been full of goals and they will have nothing to lose when they travel to City, whose near neighbours, Manchester United, remain second favourites in the outright betting. United are 6/1 with PaddyPower and they face a tricky tie against West Ham at Upton Park in a match that evokes memories of the Hammers' Paolo Di Canio-inspired 1-0 win against United in this competition from 2001.
The bookies clearly feel West Ham are up against it this year though as they are a 66/1 punt to win the FA Cup, although their London neighbours Chelsea can be found at a much shorter price. The defending champions, who have won three of the last four FA Cup finals, can be backed at 15/2 as they travel to fellow Premier League opposition in the form of Southampton in their third round match.
There are a couple of other all-Premiership ties as well as Arsenal (10/1) face a tough assignment when they travel to Swansea (50/1). The tie offers Arsene Wenger's side a quick chance to avenge Saturday's 2-0 defeat to the Swans at the Emirates, while Harry Redknapp's QPR (50/1) welcome West Brom (33/1) in the other top-flight match-up.
It wouldn't be the FA Cup without the potential for an upset though and a couple of lower league sides have mouth-watering fixtures against the 'big boys' in store. The winner of next Tuesday's second round replay between Blue Square Bet Premier League duo Mansfield and Lincoln, who drew 3-3 at the weekend, will travel to Anfield to take on last year's beaten finalists Liverpool (9/1).
Liverpool's Merseyside rivals Everton, who are 14/1 in the latest betting with PaddyPower, will host either Blue Square Bet outfit Hereford or League Two side Cheltenham, while Harrogate or Hastings will get the chance to visit Championship high-fliers Middlesbrough.
Elsewhere, Tottenham are 9/1 after they drew Coventry in a repeat of the 1987 final, while Newcastle are 20/1 ahead of their trip to Brighton. Other ties that catch the eye include Aston Villa v Ipswich, Wigan v Bournemouth and Fulham v Blackpool, although it is City who remain the bookies' favourites to lift the trophy in May.
