QPR v Sheffield United Odds: Rangers can stretch lead at Championship summit with home win

High-flying Queens Park Rangers will be looking to cement their place at the top of the Championship table when they play Sheffield United at Loftus Road on Monday night. The Hoops sit nine points clear of nearest pursuers Norwich City before the weekend’s matches and with the Blades desperate for points to claw out the relegation zone, Monday’s clash should be entertaining.

Ladbrokes have QPR as clear 4/9 favourites with Sheffield United 13/2 outsiders with the draw available at 16/5. A 3-0 win at Bramall Lane in August kick-started QPR’s season in style and Neil Warnock’s side have been a cut above the rest of the Championship since and look nailed on for promotion to the Premier League.

Rangers have been imperious in front of their home fans this season and they haven’t been beaten since December 10 at Loftus Road, whilst Sheffield United haven’t won away since November 13 and have only grabbed three wins out of 19 games on the road this season.

Goals have been aplenty at home for QPR this campaign currently averaging two goals a game whilst the thirteen goals scored by Sheffield United away from home is the joint lowest in the league, so it doesn’t bode well for the Yorkshire outfit.

Heidar Helguson has been in terrific goalscoring form with six goals in his last seven games and the Icelandic striker is favourite with Ladbrokes to score first at 4/1. Adel Taarabt has been a revelation this year and picked up the Football League player of the year last week and he is next best to score at 9/2 with Ladbrokes. The mercurial Moroccan has terrorised defences throughout the season with his mind-boggling trickery and you have to fancy that one of the aforementioned duo will notch first for the hosts.

QPR’s defence this season has been extremely frugal conceding only 23 goals all campaign and with United’s poor scoring form you have to look towards a comfortable home win for the table-toppers and most probably to nil.

Ladbrokes’ current price of 11/2 for a home 2-0 victory looks to offer the greatest value as the Hoops continue merrily on their way to promotion and at the same time inflict more pain on the Blades and put them deeper in the relegation dogfight.

Other stand-out bets that could be of interest are for QPR to win with two or fewer goals and the 2/1 offered by Ladbrokes is an eye-catcher, whilst the 10/11 for the hosts to be leading at half-time and full-time is the stand-out bet of this intriguing tussle.
