Man City v Liverpool Odds: Back a draw in the match betting

Click here for the latest odds and betting preview for the Man City v Liverpool Carling Cup semi-final first leg on Wednesday 11th January 2012.

Manchester City will bid to get their title challenge back on track when they welcome Liverpool to the Etihad Stadium in Tuesday's night live Premier League match. City start as 5/6 favourites, although Liverpool have been impressive away from home this term and can be backed at odds of 7/2, while the draw is available at a tempting 5/2 with Paddy Power.

City missed the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table on Sunday as they succumbed to a last gasp 1-0 loss to Sunderland. It was a result that leaves them joint top of the table with Man United, albeit ahead of their bitter rivals on goal difference.

The concern for Roberto Mancini will be the fact that his side have now won just two of their last five matches and they have failed to score in their last two outings. Sergio Aguero, who has scored 13 league goals this term, will look to put that right and he is the 9/2 favourite to score first. Meanwhile, Mario Balotelli could return to the starting lineup and he is a 5/1 punt to be first scorer.

Paddy Power are offering to refund all losing first scorer, last scorer, correct score and scorecast single bets if there are five or more goals scored in the match. However, we fancy it could be worth a look at under 2.5 goals at 4/5, which is the way that eleven of Liverpool's last thirteen matches have gone.

It is defensively that Liverpool have been most impressive this term as they have kept four clean sheets in their last six and conceded just five in their last ten, with PaddyPower.com going 7/2 for them to keep a clean sheet against misfiring City.

Their 3-1 win over Newcastle on Friday kept them right in contention for a top four place and they have now lost just one of their last fourteen league matches. Steven Gerrard was hugely impressive on his return and could be set to start on Tuesday, with paddypower going 9/1 that he scores first. Craig Bellamy is also a 9/1 bet to score first and he looks very tempting when he comes up against another of his old clubs after scoring two in the win over Newcastle, plus he has plenty to prove against Mancini and co.

Interestingly the last four goals scored in Man City v Liverpool fixtures have been scored between the 31st and 35th minute and it could be worth a look at the time of the first goal on Tuesday to be scored between the 31st and 40th minute at odds of 13/2 with Paddy Power.

Much has been made of the fact that Liverpool have had an extra two days rest over City before Tuesday's match and we fancy that should give the Reds, who have lost just one of eight away, an edge. City though have won all nine of their league games at home and with four of the last six meetings between the two ending in draws, the correct score of 1-1 could be the way to go at 11/2.
