Bolton v Cardiff Odds: Peter Whittingham a tempting bet to score at the Reebok
Dougie Freedman will take charge of his first game as Bolton manager in Saturday's evening's live Championship clash with high-flying Cardiff. A few eyebrows were raised at Freedman's decision to leave Crystal Palace for the Reebok Stadium and he will look to begin to justify that decision this weekend when his side start as marginal favourites on home soil.
Bolton are currently 6/5 to begin Freedman's reign with three points but Cardiff are the form team in the Championship at the moment and they could be worth a look at 15/8 with William Hill. The draw is available at 13/5 but Bolton certainly have their work cut out against a Cardiff side who lead the table prior to the weekend's action.
Malky Mackay's Cardiff have been in tremendous form of late as they have taken a league-high 24 points from their last 10 outings, while they have been scoring goals for fun. The Welsh side humbled Burnley 4-0 last time out and they are now the joint-top scorers in the Championship with 26 goals.
The goalscoring form of Cardiff will be a real worry for Bolton boss Dougie Freedman as his new charges have conceded at least two goals in each of their last five outings. They have only kept one clean sheet all season and there could be a few goals on the menu this Saturday, with Hills offering 11/8 for over 3.5 goals in the match.
Peter Whittingham has been the chief goal threat from midfield for Cardiff this season and he has helped himself to seven goals, with Hills going 8/1 that he scores first and 11/4 that he scores anytime on Saturday as he looks to add to that tally. Former Bolton striker Heidar Helguson has scored five of his own and he is 6/1 to score the opener against his old club.
Cardiff have tended to strike early in games this season as they have scored a league-high five goals in the opening 15 minutes of games and the first goal of Saturday's match to be scored between 0-15 minutes can be backed at 7/4. Freedman will be keen for Bolton to keep it tight early on but he won't have been encouraged by what he saw in their match last weekend as they went down 2-1 to Middlesbrough.
They threw away a lead for the third time in their last five outings and the 9/2 for Cardiff to come from behind and win or draw on Saturday looks very tempting indeed. Cardiff certainly look capable of getting a result at the Reebok and spoiling Freedman's party, with the correct score of 3-2 to the Welsh outfit available at a juicy 25/1 as they look to enhance their position in their quest for a Premier League place next season.
