AC Milan v Real Madrid Odds: Ronaldo favourite to be first goalscorer again in clash of Champions League greats

Jose Mourinho returns to his old stomping ground to take on his former team's bitter rivals AC Milan. The former Inter Milan manager is now in charge of a rampant Real Madrid and returns to the San Siro for the first time since his departure in the summer. Real are in form and the self proclaimed 'Special One' has worked wonders so far, with Victor Chandler offering them as favourites to claim the win on Wednesday evening with odds of 7/5. While AC Milan, who are desperate for a win, are at 11/5, and the draw is 9/4.

This Champions League Group G clash promises to be an absolute classic, as two of the great names of the historic European competition meet in one of the continent's most majestic stadiums. Real top Group G and are currently unbeaten in the Champions League and have yet to concede a goal, which is a remarkable statistic considering they were leaking goals like a sieve last season. But such has been the transformation under Mourinho, they are now viewed as serious contenders for both the Champions League and the Spanish La Liga. They are currently perched on top of La Liga ahead of their fierce rivals Barcelona, and are unbeaten in league competition as well.

One man who is thriving under Mourinho is his Portuguese compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Manchester United man endured a torrid World Cup but has exploded into life this season, particularly in the last month or so. Ronaldo has scored 13 goals in all competitions, and has grabbed 9 goals in his last four games alone. He is a hot bet to open the scoring again against AC Milan on Wednesday, with VC Bet offering odds of 17/4 for Ronaldo to be the first goalscorer.

A win for Real Madrid would confirm their progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League with two games to spare. However they will have to do without one man who won't be returning to the San Siro in the form of former Milan star Kaka, who is a long term absentee from the Madrid side. Also missing for the match on Wednesday are the injured Garay and Gaga, while Lassana Diarra has been left out of the squad despite having recovered from a recent injury.

AC Milan meanwhile suffered a 2-0 defeat when they last met Real Madrid at the Bernabeu two weeks ago and will be keen to put in an improved performance, as they succumbed to goals from Ronaldo and German starlet Ozil. However, they don't go into this game in great form after suffering a 2-1 home defeat to Juventus at the weekend and they are facing a crucial stage of their season. They are currently third in Serie A and are under pressure from Ajax in the Champions League Group G for the runners up spot to qualify for the knockout stages.

Milan will be without defenders Massimo Oddo and Daniele Bonero, but they are boosted by the return of Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho who was recently recalled to the Brazil national squad. While a man who knows all about Mourinho from his Inter days is Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibrahimovic will probably lead the line on his own up front on Wednesday and appears the Milan player most likely to open the scoring at odds of 6/1 with Victor Chandler. His odds are drifting and he may be well worth a look to do the job for the Rossoneri.

In terms of a scoreline for the match on Wednesday, you can expect an open game although both sides will probably be functional rather than Brazilian in style due to the pragmatic nature of Mourinho and the Italians respectively.
