Fleetwood Offer Value In The Betting For The New League One Season

The new League One campaign gets underway on Saturday afternoon and a pair of recently relegated sides head the betting to win the division this term, although we are backing Southend and Fleetwood to provide some value in our season preview...

  2017/18 League One Season
Tips Fleetwood to be promoted    Best Bet @ 8 / 1
Southend to finish in the top-six @ 4 / 1
Conor McAleny top scorer (each way) @ 25 / 1
Gillingham to be relegated @ 7 / 4

The Favourites

Blackburn are 9/2 to win League One after being relegated from the Championship and the calming influence of Tony Mowbray could be a defining factor. Mowbray very nearly saved Rovers from the drop when he came in and he has wasted no time by improving his squad for a crack at a swift return to the second tier, with Peter Whittingham an astute signing.

Danny Graham should provide the goals but Rovers are far too short a price for title glory as you can never be sure what the Venky owners are going to do next....

Like Blackburn, Wigan are bidding to bounce back up at the first time of asking and the 2015/16 League One winners can be backed at 8/1. Will Grigg should be on fire now he is back down a division and it will be interesting to see how they progress under new manager Paul Cook, who left Portsmouth for the Latics despite winning League Two last season.

Pompey are actually 9/1 for back-to-back promotions and the appointment of Kenny Jackett is a brilliant move, while Brett Pitman could prove to be one of the signings of the season. However, it took Pompey plenty of attempts before finally going up from League Two and we can't have them at a single figure price.

The Best Of The Rest

Bradford can be backed at 12/1 for the title after losing to Millwall in the play-offs during each of the previous two seasons, although the fact they have lost Billy Clarke at a time when they should be strengthening is a major concern for us.

We prefer the look of the team that Bradford narrowly beat in the play-off semi-finals last year as Fleetwood bid to improve on their fourth place finish. The Cod Army, who have enjoyed six promotions in thirteen years, have done brilliantly to keep hold of manager Uwe Rosler following reported interest in the German from bigger clubs.

Rosler only arrived on the eve of last season and given more time to get his ideas across we fancy his developing side are a good bet for promotion at 8/1.
Tip #1: Fleetwood to be promoted @ 8/1 with Bet 365.

Rosler has snapped up former Everton striker Conor McAleny and we're going to have an each-way punt on him to be top goalscorer after he notched ten goals in eighteen appearances while on-loan at Oxford last season.
Tip #2: Conor McAleny to be top goalscorer (each way) @ 25/1 with B365.

Shrimpers For The Top Six

Southend are another team that will go again in League One after missing out on the play-offs by one point last season. In a sense it bodes well for Phil Brown's side that the past four teams to finish seventh in League One have gone on to finish in the top-six the following year, albeit none of them have been promoted!

With that in mind, the 4/1 for Southend to finish in the top-six looks a fair price.
Tip #3: Southend to finish in the top-six @ 4/1 with Bet Victor.

Relegation

Finally, Gillingham evaded relegation by the skin of their teeth in May but we fear for a team that has since sold a key asset in Bradley Dack to Blackburn. They conceded a league-high 79 goals in 2016/17 and we'll have a bit of the 7/4 for them to be relegated.
Tip #4: Gillingham to be relegated @ 7/4 with Unibet.
