West Ham v Man City Odds: Carlos Tevez heads the first scorer betting
Saturday evening's live Premier League kick-off sees West Ham take on Manchester City at Upton Park. The Hammers will no doubt look to make life difficult for the reigning league champions and both sides should enjoy the benefits of being fresh for the game as neither was in Capital One Cup action during mid-week, although it is City who are odds on to take all three points back to Manchester.
City's supposedly 'poor' start to the season has been a little overdone by the media as they are the only remaining unbeaten team in the top-flight and they find themselves comfortably in third in the league table. They will look to justify their 4/6 favouritism in the match odds with Ladbrokes this weekend, while West Ham are 4/1 to cause an upset and 11/4 to draw.
Roberto Mancini's side have admittedly been very poor in the Champions League but a likely early European exit could actually enhance their chances of a successful title defence. They could be left with just the domestic competitions to focus on and they arrive at West Ham on the back of five wins and two draws in their last seven away league matches.
They haven't quite been at their fluent best so far as shown when they laboured to a 1-0 win over Swansea last weekend. Four of their six wins in the league have now come by a one goal margin this season and City to win by one goal can be backed at a best price 3/1 with Ladbrokes bookmakers. That market could offer interest and Carlos Tevez is likely to be a popular figure in the first scorer market.
Tevez is set to return to Upton Park after a very successful spell with the London club a few years ago but he is 4/1 favourite to score first on Saturday after grabbing the winner against Swansea last time out. Who partners Tevez up front is open to debate but Edin Dzeko, who has scored seven goals this season, will hope to get the chance to impress and he is 9/2 to score first.
Mancini's side should be confident heading into this fixture as they have won seven and lost none of the last ten West Ham v Man City matches in the Premier League. There is no doubt that West Ham are a physically strong team and their recent form has been impressive as they have won three and lost only one of their five home league games so far.
The Hammers are sitting comfortably in mid-table and Andy Carroll will be keen to add to his fine record of having scored four goals against Man City, with Ladbrokes going 7/1 for him to score first and 9/4 that he scores anytime.
However, West Ham's form is a little misleading as they have only played two of the current top-10 in the league so far this season, losing 3-1 to Arsenal and beating Fulham 3-0. The way they struggled against an Arsenal team who have since suffered a dip in form of their own suggests that Man City could edge this one and keep pace with Man United and Chelsea at the top.
