After a dramatic week of Capital One Cup football, the Premier League returns to offer more thrills and spills on Saturday lunchtime as Manchester United welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford. Both sides were involved in a couple of high scoring League Cup clashes in mid-week and this live fixture could offer plenty of goals with neither side too worried about defending lately.
A second string United side lost 5-4 to Chelsea in their fourth round match on Wednesday but expect the big guns to return for Saturday and they are 4/6 for the win against Arsenal. The Gunners fielded a reserve side in the cup as well on Tuesday as they came from 4-0 down to beat Reading 7-5 in a remarkable match and they are 9/2 in the match betting with PaddyPower this weekend, with the draw a 13/5 punt.
United's defeat to Chelsea ended a five-match winning run but Sir Alex Ferguson won't be too worried about that as he made 10 changes to the side that actually beat Chelsea 3-2 in the league last Sunday. Ferguson will no doubt bring his star players back in against Arsenal and Robin van Persie will be gearing up to face his former club.
Van Persie scored in both league fixtures against United for Arsenal last season but he will be in the opposite dressing room this weekend and he is 4/1 favourite to be first goalscorer. The Dutchman, who has scored 10 goals this season, is also 4/1 to score two or more and 12/1 for a hat-trick in the latest betting with PaddyPower, who will refund all losing first scorer, last scorer, correct score and scorecast single bets on the match if van Persie scores last on Saturday.
The Dutchman is likely to be joined by Wayne Rooney, who is 5/1 to score first, and the Englishman has 10 goals to his name against the Gunners, while Javier Hernandez (7/1) is pushing for a start after scoring four goal in his last three appearances. Scoring goals has rarely been an issue for United as they have scored in each of their last 53 league games at home, while they have scored two or more goals in their last nine outings in all competitions.
It is no surprise to see that over 3.5 goals is priced 6/4, while over 4.5 is 7/2, particularly as Arsenal have looked so poor at the back of late. Since opening the season with three successive clean sheets, Arsenal have kept just one clean sheet in 11 and they could struggle to keep United at bay this weekend.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side have had much the better of this Man Utd v Arsenal fixture as they have won seven and lost none of their last eight meetings, including a stunning 8-2 win here last year. United's penchant for attacking makes another high scoring match a tempting bet and the correct score market could be worth a look with paddypower's money-back offer in mind, with United to win 4-2 available at a juicy 35/1.
Theo Walcott should arrive in Manchester full of confidence after his mid-week hat-trick against Reading and Walcott is 5/1 to score anytime on Saturday, although his form alone cannot disguise the fact that Arsenal have been poor in the league of late as they find themselves in sixth place, six points behind United in second, and that gap could be extended come Saturday afternoon.
