Theo Walcott was big name omission from Fabio Capello's final England squad of twenty-three who will be flying out to South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday. Walcott made the headlines for being picked four years ago by the then England manager Sven Goran Eriksson where he failed to spend any minutes on the pitch. Despite scoring a hat-trick against Croatia in World Cup qualification it looks as though Walcott was given the axe by Capello after two poor performances in England's recent warm-up matches. As a result, the odds for England to win the World Cup have drifted, with Paddy Power going best industry price 7/1 about the 'Three Lions' chances in South Africa.

The other six players to miss out on the trip to South Africa are Darren Bent, Leighton Baines, Adam Johnson, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone and Scott Parker. Players that were on the cusp of the England squad betting such as Joe Cole and Shaun Wright-Philips will both make the trip, as will Spurs captain Ledley King and the injured Gareth Barry.
With the waiting over on who will be going to South Africa, attention can now turn as to how England will get on in the World Cup, with the betting very much predicting an early exit for Fabio Capello's team, with Irish bookmaker Paddy Power predicting a second round exit as the most likely outcome at 5/2.
If England were to win Group C they would need to beat the runner up in Group D, which contains the likes of Australia, Germany, Ghana and Serbia. If England were to make it to the quarter-finals, where they were knocked out four years ago they could face the Group A winners, a group which contains France, Mexico, Uruguay and the hosts South Africa. PaddyPower make a quarter-final exit their next best in the betting at 10/3.
