Phil Taylor remains the man to beat as the Premier League darts season moves on to the Cardiff International Arena on Thursday for week eight of action. Taylor is 4/7 favourite with Totesport to win the competition but faces a stern test when he plays in-form Raymond Van Barneveld, a 7/1 bet for the title, on Thursday night. Gary Anderson has continued to slip away with three defeats on the trot and he has drifted out to 9/2 in the betting, with a return to form against bottom of the table James Wade very much needed this week....
Gary Anderson v James Wade
Gary Anderson is the first in action in Cardiff as he takes on James Wade and he needs to return to form quickly. The Scot had been top of the table but a run of three consecutive defeats has seen him drop down the league, and he is 4/6 on to beat James Wade this week. Anderson lost a high quality clash 8-5 against Raymond Van Barneveld in Brighton last week and in truth he contributed plenty to the match as he averaged 92.26 and only missed doubles cost him. He will be expecting to put that right this week against James Wade, who is bottom of the table despite finishing runner up last year and comes off the back of an 8-1 thrashing to Taylor. Wade can be backed at 9/4 in the betting with Tote but we fancy Anderson to return to form with an 8-3 win at 9/1.

Simon Whitlock v Terry Jenkins
Simon Whitlock notched his third win of the season against Mark Webster last week as he eased to an 8-2 victory. It was a welcome win for the Australian after he had lost two in a row before that and he certainly showed plenty of quality in Brighton by averaging 100.45 and throwing three 180s. He is 3/5 favourite in the betting for his match with Terry Jenkins, who can be backed at 13/5 and is most people's tip to finish bottom of the table this season. Jenkins showed plenty of spirit in coming from 6-3 down to record the first draw of the Premier League darts season against Adrian Lewis last week, but Whitlock could have a bit too much quality and the 8-2 win looks tempting at 11/1 in the betting.

Phil Taylor v Raymond Van Barneveld
The stand out tie of week eight is without a doubt the clash between two heavyweights of the game in Phil Taylor and Raymond Van Barneveld. Taylor has romped to the head of the table with six win in a row and his opening day defeat to Adrian Lewis is now a distant memory. He was relentless in beating James Wade 8-1 last week, where he averaged 106 and threw a 121 finish. Van Barneveld meanwhile has recovered from a slow start to move into second in the table, just two points behind Taylor, and he beat Gary Anderson 8-5 last week after being 2-0 down. Taylor and Van Barneveld met four weeks ago with Taylor winning through 8-3, but with the Dutchman in form it could be a lot closer this week with the 8-5 to Taylor looking decent value at 9/2 in the betting. Taylor is very much favourite for the match at 4/11 with Tote, while Van Barneveld can be backed at an industry best of 9/2.

Adrian Lewis v Mark Webster
World Championship winner Adrian Lewis has continued to fail to hit the heights of his opening day win over Phil Taylor and he again failed to secure a win last week as he threw away a 6-3 lead to draw 7-7 with Terry Jenkins last week. Lewis is 3/5 favourite to be Mark Webster this week but Webster can be backed at 13/5 in the betting with Tote and that could be worth a look. Webster has failed to win in his last three so both players are desperately searching for form, but Webster has the advantage of having beaten Lewis 8-2 when they last met four weeks ago.
