Phil Taylor defends his World Grand Prix title in Dublin this week, in search of his tenth win in the event. Bookmaker Boylesports certainly don't see anyone stopping him pricing the Englishman up at an odds on 1/2, but still go best price. The Irish showpiece consists of the world's top thirty-two players and is unique on the PDC circuit as the players must hit a double to get off the mark in each leg.

Despite Taylor's dominance in this event, the world number one has lost in the third round on three occassions, something that Monday night's opponent Brendan Dolan will take some encouragement in. The Irishman might fancy a couple of quid on himself as well, as Boyles go 10/1 his chances. Taylor is a hugely short 1/25 chance.
Raymond Van Barneveld is the second favourite in the betting at 8/1 as he gets his tournament off to a start on Tuesday night against John MaGowan. The Dutchman is as short as 1/9 to win his opening match and he'll be keen to get back to winning ways after a quiet couple of years by his standards.
Aussie Simon Whitlock is having a ball of a time in Europe after changing to play on the PDC tour last year. The Wizard of Oz is best price 11/1 to get his first major vicotry of his career with Boylesports and joint third favourite with Englishman James Wade. The Irish bookie is happy to go best price Whitlock in his opening match against Paul Nicholson but the Australian is still as short as 4/9 to make it through to the second round. Wade is also best price, but at 1/6 he's hardly worth backing at small stakes in a single.
A lot of the early round matches will have one player at very short odds, so it is always a good idea to see if you can group up the players you fancy at short odds and put them in a multiple. There are however a few closer matches in the betting in round one. Adrian Lewis is an 8/11 shot against the dangerous Alan Tabern who is 5/4 in their first round clash, whilst the bookies can't split Co Stompe and his opponent Colin Osbourne on Tuesday night.
With the double start at this event and the short format to each match, suprise results aren't uncommon, so looking at the outright odds of a number of players they look quite tempting. If the players can avoid Phil Taylor, the likes of Mervyn King and Adrian Lewis will fancy themselves this week at big prices at 28/1 and 40/1 respectively with Boylesports.
