Glen Durrant to storm to BDO World Championships glory at Lakeside
Darts fans quickly turn their attentions to the BDO World Championships, and while the quality may not meet the standards of the recently finished PDC Worlds won by Michael Van Gerwen, but it is certainly made up for in competitiveness, with most of the players heading to the Lakeside Country Club with a positive mindset that they could possibly lift the legendary trophy on January 15.
- Scott Waites won the BDO World Championships last year
- Glen Durrant won eight tournaments in 2016
- Martin Adams bids for fourth BDO World crown

Durrant Favourite To Bag Maiden BDO World Title
Glen Durrant will head into the tournament as the warm favourite, and is a best-priced 15/8 with Coral to bag his first world title, and having won a plethora of tournaments on the circuit in the last 12 months then he will be the one to beat, but can he finally break his Lakeside hoodoo?
Having made his debut in the 2014 World Championship, the Teeside thrower has potentially disappointed on the biggest stage, with a semi-final loss to Martin Adams in 2015 being his best result to date, while he ended up being knocked out in the quarter final last year by eventual winner Scott Waites, who thrashed Jeff Smith in the final 7-1.
However, Duzza has been the form player on the BDO circuit this season and if he can finally produce his best on the stage this time around then it's hard to not see him makiing his first world final, and providing he throws his best darts then it's hard to take him on with any of his counterparts.
Waites And Mitchell Aim To Shine At Lakeside Again
Scott Waites will go in search of a hat-trick of world crowns when the competition begins on Channel 4 on Saturday, but the Yorkshireman has only tasted victory in one premier tournament this season, and while he is sure to improve for a return to the Lakeside it's hard to see him reviving his game enough to land a blow, so the 12/1 with bet365 could be worth avoiding.
2015 champion Scott Mitchell has picked up a brace of titles in the last year and he is another that will hold aspirations of lifting the trophy once again, but much like Waites he will be hoping for a turn in fortunes over the next eight days and at 14/1 with Sky Bet is another to let go in this event.
Noppert Aims To Win Worlds On Debut
It is not rare to see a debutant to relish the Lakeside stage and perform admirably on his fixt visit to the famous venue and Dutch star Danny Noppert has won a flurry of tournaments this season and the 26-year-old has been installed as the 6/1 second favourite with bet365 to bag the event at the first time of asking.
Jamie Hughes blossomed last year at Lakeside before being thrashed 6-1 by the abovementioned Waites, but the West Bromwich star will be hoping for more this season and he could be a lively contender at an eye-catching 12/1 with bet365, while BDO stalwart Martin Adams is always one for the shortlist and Wolfie is sure to gain some support at 20/1 with Betfred bookmakers.
Of the others, Jeff Smith (28/1) will be desperate to bounce back from defeat in last year's final and has to be given a mention, while Richard Veenstra reached the semi-finals last year and at 66/1 is overpriced with BetVictor and could be the challenger to give you a decent run for your money at huge odds.
