It wasn't too long ago that Darts coverage was reserved to a a few tournaments a year on television held in smoky bar lounges in front of a couple of hundered boozers. However, in recent times, Sky Sports, the BBC and ITV cover Darts tournaments which have now enabled punters to bet on touraments all year round. There are two Darts organisations, the PDC, which includes players such as Phil Taylor and Raymond Van Barneveld and the BDO which is mainly played by semi-professionals and is covered by the BBC.
As well as the PDC World Championship held over Christmas, the BDO hold their World Championships in January at the Lakeside Complex in Frimley, Hampshire. Both events hold many betting opportunities but it is the PDC version of the sport that has the bigger following, with half a dozen events televised by Sky Sports every year, including the Premier League of darts, UK Open and World Matchplay Darts.

Outright Darts Betting
Ante-post betting on Darts is very popular, especially once the draw has been made so you can see what kind of route your selction would take if he was going to win the tournament. In the PDC format of the game Phil Taylor is always going to be a short priced favourite in the outright betting, whilst the BDO is a much more open betting heat.
Darts Match Odds
All the bookmakers will offer match betting on every game of a televised darts tournament. You will also be able to have an accumulator bet so you can select a number of players to win their matches as one single bet. There's more risk involved but the odds will be greater. It's also a popular bet in the early rounds of tournaments when there are plenty of short priced favourites.
Darts Handicap Betting
If there's a darts match where the odds are very short on one of the players, some bookmakers will offer a handicap to try and even out the match odds and give you a bigger return for your odds. This works especially well in the early round of competitions where on paper it's a bit of a miss-match. The favourite to win will give the other player a head start in terms of games and sets in this imaginary market.
Bet Live In-Running on Darts
There'll be plenty of other types of bet available during darts tournaments, many of them available live in-running, so you can place a bet during a match depending on how you think it is going. Of course, the odds will shorten as one player gets further ahead, but the see-saw nature of a good darts match means there'll be plenty of opportunities to beat the bookies.
