England won a surprisingly one-sided affair in the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Wednesday and are 8/13 odds on favourites to make it 2-0 at Headingley on Friday. Alastair Cook's men won by 110 runs at the Oval, but surely Sri Lanka cannot play as poorly this time around and they are available at industry best odds of 13/10 with Bet 365 bookmakers.
Alastair Cook's reign as England captain could hardly have got off to a better start as his side romped home in the rain affected first match at the Oval, with only runs for the captain missing from a fine all round team performance. Cook scored just five as opener but little can be taken from that one innings and he will have much to prove alongside opening partner Craig Kieswetter this week; with B365 offering 4/5 that England's opening partnership is higher than Sri Lanka's.
Runs for Kevin Pietersen appear to be of less concern of late as the number four looks back to his best. He scored 90 the last time he played a ODI for England at Headingley, in the win over South Africa, and he is 7/2 favourite to be England's top batsman and a tempting 12/1 to be man of the match this week.
Stuart Broad has also enjoyed success at Headingley in the past, taking four wickets in the win over Pakistan last year. He has taken six wickets in three matches in Leeds but they have come at a cost - 226 runs off his 30 overs! We fancy Broad to weigh in with some wickets this week though and he is well worth a look at odds of 4/1 to be top England bowler as he looks to quieten recent criticism.
For Sri Lanka things can't get much worse than their performance on Wednesday and they will probably be glad that Sanath Jayasuriya has now officially retired and the fanfare surrounding him has stopped.
It was just a few months ago that Sri Lanka destroyed England in the World Cup quarter-finals, with Tillakaratne Dilshan scoring a stunning 108 not out. Dilshan, who scored 467 runs at the World Cup, looks good value to be top Sri Lanka batsman this week at odds of 3/1 with Bet365.com, and if he gets going then his odds of 9/1 to be man of the match could prove good value.
Meanwhile, the bowling is led by Lasith Malinga and he again showed the way by taking three for 40 at the Oval. He is once again hot favourite to be top Sri Lanka bowler at industry best odds of 2/1.
Sri Lanka won their last ODI meeting with England at Headingly in 2006 as they successfully, and almost nonchalantly, chased 321. England though have won six of their last eight ODIs in Leeds, including the last two, and after Wednesday's events we fancy they could well go 2-0 up in the five match series.
