India can seal a one-day international series win with victory over England at the Punjab CA Stadium in Mohali on Thursday. India lead the best-of-five series 2-0 after two matches and they are 8/13 odds on favourites to make it 3-0, while Ladbrokes price England 5/4 to pull off an unlikely victory.
England have been comprehensively outplayed in the opening two matches as they fell to a 126-run defeat in the first match and swiftly followed that up with an eight wicket loss. The defeats were particularly humiliating after their success in the Test and ODI series in England during the summer but they are finding Indian conditions as alien as ever.
In stark contrast, India are making the most of their return to home soil and Virat Kohli in particular has looked in scintillating form. Kohli has carried his form from the recent Champions League into the series as he scored 112 not out in the last match to make it two hundreds in his last three ODI appearances. He is 13/8 to score a fifty this week and 7/2 to be top Indian batsman.
The pitch at Mohali is traditionally one that should suit the quicker bowlers a touch more as wickets have often been shared between the bowlers in recent ODIs there. However, the way England have struggled against spin suggests that it is well worth looking at the Indian spinners for a top bowler, with off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin 7/2 to be top Indian wicket taker, while left armer Ravindra Jadeja is available at a tempting 4/1.
England's struggles against spin have been noticeable as Kevin Pietersen continues his search for a first ODI hundred since 2008. One man to benefit from England's struggles against spin is Ian Bell, whose stock continues to rise and he will surely be handed a recall.
Bell was left out of the first two matches despite being England's best player of spin and we fancy he could provide great value at odds of 6/1 to be top England batsman with Ladbrokes.com.
Meanwhile, Chris Woakes has been ruled out of the rest of the series with injury, so Graham Onions will replace him.
England will look to get amongst India's openers as Rahane and Patel are yet to fire and it could be worth a punt on them failing again, with Ladbrokes offering 5/6 that the first Indian wicket falls with less than 27.5 runs on the board.
There is a glimmer of hope for England on Thursday as India have only won one of their last four ODI matches in Mohali, but momentum looks to be with the home side and they are now 11/4 to win the series 5-0.
