England v Bangladesh Second Test Odds: England to Win but Tamim Ibqal to Shine

Although not much of a competition the England v Bangladesh 2nd Test at Old Trafford this week, should provided cricket punters with one or two opportunities to make money from the match. England quite naturally go into the game as overwhelming favourites with odds of 1/7 odds on offered by Paddy Power while Bangladesh are a best price of 33/1 to beat England for the first time in their test Match history.

England of course won the first test at Lords the other day, but in fairness to Bangladesh they took the match to the final day, after producing a good batting performance themselves. Central to that batting effort was the young highly regarded opening batsman, Tamim Ibqal. After making 55 in the first innings, the 20 year old followed that up with a 103 off just 100 balls in the second innings, thus becoming the first Bangladeshi batsman to score a century at Lords. He is therefore a little obvious, but we think a great bet with odds of 10/3 from paddy power to be the top Bangladesh batsman in this Second Test.

As far as the England batting is concerned the best bets will be to be back those who, in theory at least, will have more time at the crease. Captain, Andrew Strauss looked in great form in the first test with 83 in the first innings and 82 in the second. Like Ibqal for Bangladesh therefore he is a very obvious bet to be England’s top batsman in the match with odds of 10/3. His opening partner, Alistair Cook, who effectively failed in the First Test, will no doubt be keen to make amends this time around. He certainly has the ability as he proved in the two tests played against Bangladesh earlier this year, which make the odds of him being top batsman in this of 7/2 very attractive. It is a difficult one to call admittedly, particularly as Jonathan Trott looked mightily impressive in the First Test with his double hundred. The odds of all the top English Batsmen are as follows:

England clearly had the upper hand in the bowling stakes at Lords and we think the same will occur at Old Trafford. However, James Anderson, who will be playing on home soil this week, is surely a great bet, even at 2/1 to finish the match as England’s top bowler.
