Stanley Leisure appoint new casino boss

Stanley Leisure have announced that its casino division has had a new managing director to it. Michael Riffy has been appointed as chairman of its casino gambling sector.

In November the company announced the joint venture with Malaysian based Genting International to develop new regional casinos in the UK.

Stanley is already the UK's biggest casino operator with 41 outlets, including four upmarket establishments in London and also owns the sports betting site Stanleybet

Stanley Genting aims to develop Las Vegas-style casinos, although its success will be very much dependent on the scope of proposed government gambling reforms.

Late last year Mr Riddy claimed Stanley had been forced to tear up its casinos business plan after ministers further scaled back plans for reform. Originally the government said it would allow up to 40 super casinos to open but following a public outcry this was reduced to just eight. However Mr Riddy, who joined Stanley in 1998 as finance director, remains upbeat about the prospects of the Genting venture.
