Kell Brook Tipped To Beat Errol Spence Jr By Decision

Bramall Lane, home of Kell Brook’s very own Sheffield United, will host the IBF world title showdown between Brook and Errol Spence Jr.

Over 27,000 people will witness one of the most highly-anticipated welterweight fights in recent times on Saturday night, with American Eroll Spence tipped to snatch Brook’s crown by many bookmakers (8/13 with Paddy Power).

Last time out, Brook faced arguably the most feared fighter on the planet, Gennady Golovkin. Brook moved up two weight divisions to make the fight and put up a valiant fight, but the sheer ferociousness and power of Triple G was too much and the fight was stopped in the fifth round. The Special One, Brook, has took a gamble in taking the fight, one which has been commended by Eddie Hearn and has done remarkably well to make the 147lb weight.

Although Spence has been deemed as the slight favourite, the calibre of opponents he has faced are far less skilled compared to who Brook has faced. The best fighter which Brook has faced and won is Shawn Porter, where Brook beat the American on points in Porter’s shores. Comparing that to Spence’s best victory, Chris Algieri, there’s a huge gulf in class. Without doubt, this is Spence’s first and hardest test of his career and he will be entering a cauldron of fire at Bramall Lane come Saturday night.

Spence is taller than Brook and also possesses a longer reach by three inches, 18 of Spence’s 21 victories have come by way of knockout.

The game plans:

Brook’s jab has always been one of his major strengths, but with this one and with Spence’s reach in mind, he will need to ensure he gets close to the American so that Spence is not able to find a comfortable rhythm. Kell must not cruise in the early rounds, a vibrant and explosive opening will unsettle Spence, with the atmosphere not working in his favour.

Spence will be looking to add to his impressive knockout record. Fighting for a world-title away from home is a difficult task to overcome, and if he is to de-thrown Brook, he cannot risk the scorecards. He will use his reach to his advantage, opening Brook up to combination punches and not allowing the 31-year-old to narrow the distance between them.

Prediction:

With the experience he has, in addition to him fighting in his back-yard, Brook will be too much too soon for Spence. Brook to win by a unanimous decision (7/2 with Bet 365).
