David Haye Tipped To Be Too Strong For Tony Bellew

After months of heated confrontations and bad blood, David Haye and Tony Bellew will finally go toe-to-toe in front of 17,000 at The O2 on Saturday night.

Tony ‘Bomber’ Bellew won’t defend his WBC Cruiserweight world title against Haye, there is no title on the line, but everything else is well and truly at stake in this affair.

‘The Hayemaker’ had two bouts in 2016, against fighters without any real proven pedigree, both victories came by way of TKO. Until those two fights, Haye hadn’t fought in four years and that last win was against Dereck Chisora.

Tips Haye to win between rounds 1-4    Best Bet @ 6 / 5

There’s no doubt that David Haye was a lightening quick and heavy handed heavyweight back then, but he hasn’t had any serious bouts against opponents that have the potential to pose a serious threat to him during the past few years. Bellew will look to play on that, the fact that Bellew has been involved in eight fights in just two years against competitive opposition such as BJ Flores and Llunga Makabu, suggests that Bellew knows what level of performance he is capable of giving, Haye on the other hand, is hard to predict.

Haye has a four-inch reach advantage over the Evertonian, despite both being six-foot-three. Haye will look to use his quick and powerful hooks to open Bellew up, whereas Bellew will be looking to drain Haye and really test Haye’s untested fitness levels.

If Haye is able to use his jab more frequently than normal, he will allow himself to showcase his big right hand punches, and if one of those lands, Bellew will be in serious trouble.

At the weigh-in, Bellew came in lighter than Haye. Haye weighed-in at 16st 90z, whereas Bellew weighed-in at 15st 3lbs 80z. David Haye is a big cruiserweight, one which has the ability to inflict hurtful damage to lighter opponents.

Despite this being David Haye’s first real test since 2012, he will be too hot for Bellew to handle, we’ve seen what a heavy-hitter can do to Bellew, Adonis Stevenson stopped him in the sixth round in what was the only time Bellew has ever been stopped.

Bellew needs to find a rhythm in the early rounds, however, David Haye will be too much of a step-up for Bellew, Haye should finish this one within 4-rounds (6/5 with Betfair).
