The NFC Championship game between the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings at the Louisiana Superdome on Sunday has all the hallmarks of being a classic and the betting predicts that it's going to be a shootout between two explosive Offenses. The spread for total points scored in the game has been set at 53.5 by bookmaker Bet365.com who offer 10/11 about over or under that figure, whilst the Saints are the marginal favourites (giving up 3.5 point on the handicap) to win the game and progress to Superbowl XLIV.
Both the Saints and the Vikings come in to this game on the back of impressive wins in last weekend's divisional round of the playoffs. New Orleans put the Arizona Cardinals to the sword, running out 45-14 winners in a nosey Superdome! Something Saints Head Coach, Sean Peyton, will be hoping for a repeat of to make home advantage count against a Vikings team who had an equally as emphatic win last Sunday, beating the much fancied Dallas Cowboys 34-3.

Whilst both the Saints and Vikings Defenses put up solid performances last time out to help progress to this game, it is hard not to see anything other than this encounter being an Offensive battle, and a high scoring one at that with the teams ranked #1 and #2 in the NFL for points scored per game this season! The Saints are averaging 32 points per outing with the Vikings not too far behind with an average of 29 points.
Add to the equation the number one and two ranked Quarterbacks in the league and this really is a mouth watering clash. Drew Brees lead the Saints to a regular season 13-3 record to finish number one in the NFC with some fine displays, throwing a league high of 34 Touchdowns and surpassing 4,000 passing yards for the fourth consecutive season in 'The Big Easy'. However, the game against the Vikings will be only his fifth career playoff start, leaving questions to answer about his experience and ability to handle the pressure, something that will not be a problem for opposing Quarterback Brett Favre.
At 40 years of age, Favre, will be making an NFL record 24th playoff appearance and despite his advancing years, looks as good as he ever has in his 19th season as a pro. As the orchestrator of the Minnesota Offense, Favre has a multitude of receiving weapons to aim for, namely Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice, whilst he is supported by arguably the NFL's best Running Back pairing of Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor. It could be this quality together with Favre's experience that is the difference in New Orleans and the Vikings rightly have every reason to be confident about making it to the Superbowl for the first time since 1976 and winning the big game for the first time.
