The New York Jets head to Indianapolis ahead of Sunday's AFC Championship game knowing that if they can cause a third playoff upset they will book their place in the Superbowl. The only thing standing in the way of of a trip to Miami for the Jets rookie Head Coach, Rex Ryan, is the small matter of overcoming the team who finsihed the NFL regular season with the best record (14-2) and long time Superbowl XLIV favourites, the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts are red hot 1/4 shots to beat the Jets and make a return trip to Dolphin Stadium on 7th February, the same venue where they last won the Superbowl in 2007, whilst The New York Jets are best price 31/10 to win with Paddypower.com. On the handicap the spread has been set at -8 (10/11) in favour of the Colts, suggesting that bookmakers think it will be an emphatic victory for the home side by nine points or more.
The Jets however, will not be fazed by the odds being stacked against them having overcome their 'underdogs' status twice already during the post-season. In the Wild Card round, they beat the Cincinnati Bengals, who were -3 pre-game favourites, running out 24-14 winners before winning the divisional game 17-14 against San Diego last weekend, causing a huge upset in the process as the Chargers were -9.5 favourites and on an eleven game winning streak. The Jets will also take confidence from their week 16 win (29-15) in Indianapolis, accounting for one of only two defeats all season for the Colts and at a shade over 3/1 New York will not be short of backers to cause another shock and book their first Superbowl appearance since 1969!

Many will argue that the Jets have not come up against opposition as good as the Colts so far in the play-offs and that the week 16 loss to Sunday's opponents was down to the Colts resting several key players having already secured top seed in the AFC. It will be a different side that the Jets will face at the Lucas Oil Stadium this time around and the Colts, lead by MVP Quarterback, Peyton Manning, should be able to do what the Bengals and Chargers couldn't and outscore the Jets.
It is no secret that the Jets are in the AFC Championship game thanks to their #1 ranked Defense, inparticular against the pass but they will face their toughest test to date when they come up against Manning who threw for more than 300 yards in seven consecutive games this season, an NFL record! In contrast, the Jets offense is lead by rookie Quarterback Mark Sanchez and whilst showing signs of great potential, he has thrown just 13 Touchdown passes this season compared to 35 by Manning and this is where the difference between the two teams is likely to be on Sunday, therefore making it difficult to look beyond a Colts win.
