The glitz and glamour of the NFL will be on full show at Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the Chicago Bears in the fifth annual International Series game which has seen the sport of American Football enjoy a huge growth in popularity on British shores.
Since the first game in 2007, fans attending Wembley Stadium for NFL London have been treated to some thrilling encounters and Sunday's game between the Buccs and Bears has the potential to be another crowd pleaser in what looks to be a very even matchup.
Six games in to the 2011 season, Tampa Bay will be more pleased than their opponents with the start that they've made, boasting a 4-2 record and currently sitting top of the NFC South whilst the Bears are 3-3 but head across the Atlantic on the back of a convincing 39-10 win over NFC North rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, last Sunday.
The bookmakers are struggling to split the two teams in the betting for the game with the Chicago Bears the marginal favourites at 5/6 whilst Tampa Bay are even money to emerge winners. Paddy Power have set the handicap at -1 in favour of the Bears offering odds of 10/11 that they'll win by two points or more whilst the Buccaneers can be backed at the same price receiving a +1 start, an indicator of just how close this game is expected to be!
The stats favour the Bears who are averaging 24 points per game on offense so far this season compared to the Buccaneers who are scoring just 18 points on average.
On defense, it is again the Bears who are statistically the stronger of the two teams, giving up an average of 22 points per game compared to the Buccs whose opponents have so far averaged 24 points per game.
The odds have been set at 10/11 about either over or under a total of 43.5 points being scored in the game and with both teams undoubtedly looking at this game as winnable, it would be no surprise to see both "go for it" which would open up the game and 44 points or more looks a solid bet with Paddy Power.
The Bears are lead by Quarterback, Jay Cutler, who has come in for some criticism since moving to Chicago from Denver two years ago; his decision making is often questionable and he was the most sacked Quarterback in the league last year and has been sent to the ground by opposing defenses 19 times already this year. However, Cutler did lead the Bears to the NFC Championship game and one win from Superbowl last season and for all his critics, he is more than capable of producing big performances. He's averaging 246 passing yards per game so far in 2011 and has thrown eight touchdown passes, three of which have been to rookie receiver, Dane Sanzenbacher, who is 2/1 to find the Wembley Endzone at anytime on Sunday.
Matt Forte is the most productive player on the Bears offense though, leading the team in both rushing and receiving yards after six games and has scored two touchdowns, he's only 1/2 to score at anytime in this game but the 11/2 on offer with Boylesports to score the first touchdown is worth a bet.
Tampa Bay Quarterback, Josh Freeman, is only in his third season under centre but is fast gaining a reputation as a player with a big future. He's not an explosive or "gun slinging" type QB but is certainly capable of making big plays and will have an array of receiving options to aim for at Wembley and with star Running Back, LeGarrette Blount, out injured for the Buccaneers, Freeman may find himself opting for the pass more than he may necessarily like although he is more than capable of running the ball himself and has scored two rushing touchdowns this season and the 5/1 with Paddy Power to score a Touchdown at any time looks great value when Ladbrokes are just 21/10!
This really does look like a tough game to call and either team is more than capable of winning on the day but preference is for the Chicago Bears who get the call based on the fact that they boast more of a threat on offense and can outscore the Buccaneers to head back to the USA with the win.
